Danica Patrick made IndyCar history by becoming the first female to win in the series. It happened yesterday at the 1.5 mile Twin Ring Motegi oval where she won the Indy Japan 300. This breakthrough came in her 50’th IndyCar start.
That is great! I think a winning female driver is good for the sport, and will certainly benefit IndyCar as it approaches the biggest race of the year at Indianapolis.
Yeah she won. I would rather watch a canoe race, open wheel racing in the U.S. is dead. Unification or not it is still lame, just like Nascar and the Crap Of Today.
Runnin’ 5th with 5 laps to go and who would have thought the first four would pit for gas that close to the end.
BUT A WIN IS A WIN !!! Its not how many laps you lead but where you are on the last lap.
Just saw the replay on ESPN. Very emotional with her family.
It was fun meeting her at Daytona a few years ago.

I think you’re the first known fan to have a smiling Danica in a picture.
We had a nice conversation but she laughed at the camera when I mis-pronounced her first name. I was a little tounge tied(if you know what I mean). :sprachlos020:
I completely blew off her team mate and later found out it was Rusty Wallace. It’s a bitch to get old sometime…:smilie_bett:

errr, no. 3 of them pitted, the last guy stayed on his fuel conservation plan and didn’t race her when she went by because he thought he had her a lap down.
makes for interesting questions as to how his team made that mistake, but there it is.
Sorry about the error Todd. I believed what the announcer was saying.
That driver made the error of not racin’ to the finish though, no matter what he thought or his crew was telling him. I always raced to the finish even if I knew I was a lap down. It’s just the thing to do :waffen093:

According to the AP news article today, it was Helio Castroneves that she passed. His comment was,
“With five laps to go, I was saving fuel. When Danica passed me, I realized she was the leader. She did a great job, passed me fair and square and that shows you how competitive our seies is.”
If Helio ever decides to go Nascar, I’d be the first to buy a T-shirt and wear it proudly. Besides being a hell of a racer, he’s got more class than most I’ve ever seen in racing.
Congrats to Danica though. It will bring a lot of attention to a series that needs it like a blood transfusion.
Wonder if she’d consider a Sunbelt race or two?
