Rex/Bonman just gave me a shout from over there in Lakeland, said that David Rogers won the biggie. Said it was an overly exciting race, lots of passing. Rogers started 15’th.
Jack called me it was his first win at Lakeland.
To bad it has to be his last win there also.
tonight was the best race i seen there in years.too bad it was the last
The last night was a very good one. All the elements that contributed to the tracks demise were still in place: $30 for two races, big haulers in the infield, over-bearing policies like no pit entry EVEN AFTER THE RACES. Oh well, it is history now.
I was thrilled to see David Rogers prevail in this one from his 15’th starting place. He took over close to the end when the top two cars tangled during a great battle for the lead. Tim Russell plowed into the infield wall hard, and the officials wanted to send Jay Middleton to the rear, but Jay parked instead.
Overall, it was a hard fought and entertaining race; much better than any other I’d ever seen there.
THE real reasons why the closed
They have a paddock instead of a pits
NO MINI DOUGHNUTS
hate to see that place close wish i could of ben there tonite.
WHAT no mini dougnuts
did they have the giant turkey legs?
David Rogers will be Live on INSIDE FLORIDA RACING MONDAY NIGHT …interviews with Wayne Anderson, Joe Winchell, Tim Russell, Jay Middleton, Dick Anderson, George Gorham and others …
PLUS: Mike Peters (Ocala owner), Tonya Moschell (Volusia GM), Terry Roberts (New Smyrna)
7-9 PM …IFR always has news you won’t hear anywhere else.
My heart sank when I arrived under the grandstands at Lakeland and found out that the mini do-nut people WERE NOT there. Those lazy bastards. Thats real great, not only will I never get to race at lakeland, but now I owe David Rodgers some mini do-nuts and those people to too freakin lazy to show up to the track.
On a serious note, the only race I ever saw at lakeland that was better then last nights was with Jr Hanely and Mike Fritts a number of years ago.
Other then some stupidity in the the truck race it was pretty much a snoozer. Some good racing but MOSTLY(not all) a bunch of punk kids with a ton of money pushing each other out of the way.
Congrats to the 00 on a top 10 finish.
Mike Fritts…
after walking all over the place in the heat i finally saw Mike later in the evening. sure do miss him racing. Mike looks great and as always a joy to see him. that was the best part of the night. seeing people we seldom see down in Punta Gorda. Sure wish you guys would come down to race… ;-(

I will come once I have my car finished. Traveling to different tracks is one of the reasons I moved up to the Sportsman class. I always had a blast traveling with different teams and thats what I have wanted to do with my own cars, even if it means racing only once a month.
Edm…
you will sure be welcomed. please make sure you ask for me and come over to meet us! and whoever said that Dave Rogers is a special man… you are so right. listen to him live on “INSIDE FLORIDA RACING” tomorrow (mon. 8-4-08)
