Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway Cancelled for this Weekend due to Fay

Samsula, FL (August 18, 2008) Due to Fay and not knowing what she is going to do, all racing has been cancelled for this weekend, August 22 and 23, at both Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway. Owner, Robert Hart, decided today that the not knowing and possible damage that could occur from Fay to one or both tracks, it would be best to just go ahead and shut them both down for this weekend.

The Fan Appreciation Night at both Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway will be rescheduled for a later date.

That decision seems awfully pre-mature. Here on Monday morning, it is tropical storm that is forcast to become a Cat. 1 and blow out of the area on Wednesday. Dry weather usually follows a storm.

Time will tell.

After speaking with Robert Hart earlier today… he is genuinely concerned for our Racer’s and their families with the uncertainty that this storm brings. He wants everyone to be able to focus on taking care of their homes and families, without worrying about trying to get to the track…

Fan Appreciation Night ($5.00 General Admission) will be on Saturday August 30th… this will be Double Points night for the Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Mini-Stocks and Strictly Stocks…

Double Points for the Sportsman and Pro-Trucks will be on Saturday night Sept. 20th.

Good luck to everyone this week… we hope everyone fairs okay!

I’m with Boneman on this one. Wait till it has done past. Most of Fla. should be in the clear by Thursday morning. This is most likely just going to be alot of rain. Now if a track is under water Thursday then yes cancel. If someone is hit hard by this storm then they will not be there anyway. Or if you don’t want to put pressure on the drivers. Then make it a points free race night. So no one feels forced to race. Just my thinking out loud.

Do you think that maybe the Bristol Races have anything to do with this decision? Hmmmm. billy

How DARE you read between the lines???..LOL:aetsch013:

Let’s see I guess FASCAR can’t do anything right. I don’t know how many night races they have had a Bristal but can’t remember FASCAR canceling because of a NASCAR race. I don’t agree with everything FASCAR does but maybe this time they did something right.

Well if they don’t want to race, Auburndale is open and racing if it’s not to far for you.

I don’t agree with everything FASCAR does but maybe this time they did something right.

c’mon Skipper. join the crowd, hate, hate, HATE!

wow Todd… I am surprised… I NEVER thought you would be the first person to agree with a decision!!! :aetsch013:

Have a safe weekend… we’ll see y’all on the 29th!

I stayed completely out of this one until now. My initial thought was it was a little soon but that it was a good call just for the simple fact that knuckle heads would be working on their cars instead of preping for a storm. Now if it was to completely stop raining today, I really dont think either track will still be ready.

That was the exact reason Robert made the decision he did… well he didn’t refer to them as “knuckleheads” he just said “our racer’s”… and with it being a double points night, it would’ve been worse…

And to the “Bristol” comment…
a.) Has Bristol EVER stopped us from running before – NO
b.) That was the very reason they scheduled the Fan night on that date!

wow Todd… I am surprised… I NEVER thought you would be the first person to agree with a decision!!!
<<< Marky-Mark quote, we’ll see if the tags work on this

actually, Marky-Mark, i was quoting Skipper and replying too him ( effectively, disagreeing with the FASCAR call ).

when i quote someone i normally italicize it instead of using the quote tags because it doesn’t waste so much screen space. but for some reason either i’ve been forgetting to use ital tags on my quotes recently or the board has decided to stop recognizing.

as for the “hate, hate, HATE”, that’s my Robin Miller impersonation. feel free to reciprocate.

Well I knew it was too good to be true… I missed Skip’s post completely… but thanks for clearing up your position on this one!

See ya on the 29th.

Well…

I know it is an awfully deep subject but… LMAO… It is Friday Morning and it is still raining… Since I haven’t been over to Bithlo this week I can just imagine how much seeping will be on the track considering how much occurs after a regular rain shower… I may miss racing, but unless things change very quickly to sunny skies and 105 degrees today the tracks may be just a bit too wet too race…

Hope everyone has stayed dry, safe, and unflooded… Hey Rex and Todd, from what they were saying and showing on the news it looks like you needed a boat to get out of your neighborhood…

Have a great day all…

but thanks for clearing up your position on this one!

and to further clarify … FASCAR’s decision turned out to be the right call.

yeah, i know, hell froze over.

Hey Rex and Todd, from what they were saying and showing on the news it looks like you needed a boat to get out of your neighborhood…

we were fine down here. another 6"-12" of rain over that two days would have probably hurt us pretty bad though. we were this >< close to the water being over the top of the 8’ deep drainage canals.
