I hope everyone got to see the F1 race today on SPEED . If not, try to catch it on replay . Without doubt the most exciting finish of a championship i’ve ever seen . Right to the last few corners of the last lap as the rain began to fall . If only the NASCAR Chase could be so exciting .
That was a spectacular finish and a great result for Hamilton, who I have been rooting for going on 2 seasons now (and prior to that in GP2). He didn’t win the race, but the championship is a great accomplishment. I love F1!!
I luckily flipped to it with about 8 laps to go and everyone having to decide on rain tires or not…Hamilton lucked into Glock falling back in the last 1/4 mile or so. I am not a conspiracy theorist or anything but I wonder if Glock was told to slow down because his team likes Hamilton more or they HATE Ferrari?
It was good theatre…and Vittellio(sp) actually passed Hamilton on the track. I think I saw as many passes in the last 5 laps as I had seen all year on F1.
That’s two years in a row for season-ending high drama at Brazil for F1!
But I’ve never seen anything like that, in any series, coming down to the last few corners. And what a nail-biter with Massa already across the line waiting to see where Hamilton would end up. Lewis Hamilton should buy Timo Glock a Ferrari after that.
And watching the Ferrari pits after they just found out that Hamilton got past Timo Glock - I could almost hear in the background,"…and the agony of defeat…"
Mark my words, Sebastian Vettel is the next Michael Schumacher.
“Mark my words, Sebastian Vettel is the next Michael Schumacher.”
Absolutely! As much as I like Hamilton, I think Vettel is real competition for him. The next few years of F1 should be great, as long as Bernie can keep it together (or get out). The new aero package next year should encourage more passing by reducing the aero disadvantage of trailing another car, and the return of slicks should also help things out. Throw in KERS electric drive systems, and you have a real equalizer amongst the tech packages out there. I cannot wait!
Now, if SPEED will just show some DTM and V8 Supercar over the Winter, I’ll be set…

i dunno, i thought it was pretty much the same as any other F1 race. strung out and boring as hell except for the couple of laps at the beginning and end of the race where rain was monkeywrenching everbody’s plans.

Glock had been giving up ground the previous two laps, it’s just that aside from a few comments by the announcers there was no way for TV viewers to see how slow he was going … until his dry weather slicks totally gave up and half the field blew past him.
fact: if Glock had pitted and changed to rain tires with the rest of the field he would never have been in front of Hamilton in the first place and there wouldn’t have been any tension
fact: the dry weather slick gamble that Glock took didn’t pay off. kind of like what would have happened to Carl if he had run out of fuel coming out of 4 to the white flag.
sometimes gambles pay off, sometimes they don’t. that’s why we call it “gambling”.

buying him a Ferrari would really rub Massa’s nose in it, but Hamilton drives for Mercedes. i’m thinking i wouldn’t be disappointed by an AMG if i was Timo.

while Sebastian, in a much inferior car, made Hamilton look pretty bad in the rain i think much of that has to do with Hamilton’s massive retardation last year.
after he ( and his crew ) threw away the car trying for a win when they could have effortlessly gotten a 3rd place finish and had the championship locked i expect that he was given a lot of talking too this year about “not risking the car needlessly” for this race.
frankly, if he had thrown away two consecutive 7 point leads with one race to go it might have “broken” him as a driver. being the Buffalo Bills of Formula 1 would not be a good rep to have. and he almost managed to do it.
Now, if SPEED will just show some DTM and V8 Supercar
those are okay but British Touring Car FTW.
Ahhhh…but I was also factoring in Monza when I boldly proclaimed Sebastian Vettel to the next great thing in F1. Though one has to wonder if moving over to the Red Bull “Senior” squad is actually a step down from Torro Rosso.

I’ll take anything that actually races over Unique Whips any day. I love BTCC, too, it’s just been years since I’ve actually seen a race–it slipped my mind!

There’s the rub…Ferrari power contributed alot to the late season success of the Torro Rosso chassis. While Renault had a magnificent recovery of late, I think their aero and chassis development has always outshone the engine department, and the engine freeze isn’t going to allow them to re-capture much in the way of horsepower next year. Adrian Newey’s aero skills are superior to the entire paddock, but I’m not sure he puts enough focus in the mechanical grip and power areas. Red Bull just kind of sucked all year. Weber is an amazing driver and a real handful to get past, and Coulthard never really had “it” except when he had a a truly superior machine under him in his prime. We’ll see, but I just don’t see Vettel making many waves next year. Hopefully, he can always improve his position from the grid and get picked up by Ferrari (or a resurgent Toyota) in a couple of years.
you know how i came down on you guys for saying Timo threw the race?
i …
i was wrong. :sprachlos020:
i know, it’s incredible. nobody is more amazed than i am. :engel016: but they’ve just uncovered incontrovertible video proof:

I’ll take anything that actually races over * any day.

Monster Jam
Paid Advertisement show
Pass Time
Pinks
Pinks All Out
This Week In NASCAR ( now that Mikey has managed to throw everybody interesting off of the show )
Unique Whips
Wrecked
any other nominees?
Todd , your * list is right on the money . I would have to add the awfull Truck U . Sad to see what SPEED channel has become versus what it easily could be .
I would have to add the awfull Truck U
don’t think i’ve ever watched it, but now that you mention it i think i’ve skipped over it once or twice.
i’m sure we could add at least two NASCAR pre-race/subject shows to that list but i don’t watch any of them so i’m not keeping track of what their names are.
Monster Jam isn’t actually all that bad but it’s just one more non-racing show on a “racing” channel that’s already chock full of non-racing gimmick shows.
admit it, you don’t watch MJ for the head-to-head “races”, you watch it for the destroy-a-thon “freestyle” stuff. :grinser010:
