Interesting night at New Smyrna

This could have been a complete throw-away night: it was the final event of the year, no points were involved, just racing for fun and a little money. In the end, there were two excellent features and a first time winner in Late Models. Alexis Fenton scored HER first oval track win tonight. Has there been another woman who won in LM at New Smyrna?

It was also a look ahead into 2009. Race procedures for the upcoming year have been changed, and the new format was put into action tonight: no heats, double file restarts and longer features. The racing was wrapped up in 3 hours, instead of the usual 4-5 hour show.

A tip of the hat to John Hodge and Justin Reynolds, who put on the best Super Stock race I’ve seen for many, many moons. They ran hard, close and clean as both guys swapped the top spot. John came out on top in this one.

As predicted, OSW Super Stock drivers drove around and away from the NSS guys, who were running on their home track!

Strictly Stocks also put on an entertaining race.

I hope you just put a fire under all NSS superstocks so they will go down to orlando and put on a clinic. I like the rivalry I think it is good for the racing but everyone knows the drivers come from NSS. John and justin did put on a great show and I hope they come up more often.

scratches head

you can, just barely ( he only has 5 more points at NSS than at OSW ), count Reynolds as a primarily NSS driver, but Hodge was third in points at OSW.

or are you trying to say the the “better drivers” run NSS?

John and Justin both did a great job last night Todd with some very close racing. They swapped the lead a few times but we now have double file restarts and on the last one, John got the point back. But they never touched each other and ran each other hard and put on one heck of a show. Justin usually runs his Sportsman since the Super Stock is Matt’s car but Justin has always been a good racer, just never got any credit on his driving. Tobi Smith was also there but his motor blew in practice and he went home.

Are Orlando drivers better than New Smyrna, I can’t answer that but last night they did put on a great show for everyone. John is racing Friday night at SpeedWorld but Justin said he probably would not, did not have the money. But Friday should be fun with both Strictly Stocks and Super Stocks, North vs. the South, who will win??? You and your dad coming???

Interesting to say the least…

The races were interesting… I have to agree that the Super Stock Race as well as the Strictly stock race were great… What about that Super Stock DQ last night… I will give the guys credit from OSW, they ran a great race and it was nice to see. It looks like a great 2009 season coming up…

Hey Mike… How did you guys fair in that disaster of a Sportsman race… Congrats to the guy running the Hooters car, dragging all kinds of parts and still finished… He came in and almost didn’t go to tech… Correct me, but there were only two unscathed cars in that race weren’t there…

Have a great day all…

Can’t wait to play 2009…

PS… Great to see you again last night Rex… We are going to have to catch up on the old and the new season soon…
How did the Wind tunnel go?

Hey Todd go easy now I was only trying to stir up the pot a little but I think with the economy the way it is, we need cars from Orlando and Nss to start mixing it up more often I think it makes for great racing. I don’t think drivers from the one track are better than the other but thanks for giving us justin we’ll take him. Flraceguy, we didn’t to bad just bent a tire rod and some sheet metal. I was not driving last night but from where I was, it looked like that 7 just wanted to ride in our car, and if he did he should of let us know before the race we could of made some kind of a deal since the car is for sale.

I’m really not sure about the north V’s south thing its more of a big body V’s metric chassis. It’s just that there are more big body cars at Orlando.

Justin Reynolds is definitely an Orlando driver, you have to remember that he is really a sportsman driver and if you and his super stock point with his sportsman, it’s very evident. Plus at the 50 lapper, he did not initially go to tech because at Orlando his home track only the top 3 go to tech, and he was never told otherwise because the track did not hold a drivers meeting because they were running short on time.

Hey Mike since your car is for sale, what are your plans for next year. Do you have a new one or what? Tell Adam when you talk to him that I miss his smile. He was always very nice to me and I do miss seeing him. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and the happiest of New Year’s and let me know what you are doing when you can.

Jane

Justin Reynolds is definitely an Orlando driver

that’s what i was thinking but who am i to contradict the points standings?

You and your dad coming???

now Jane, even if we had something to bring, you wouldn’t want us to tell you in public. :engel016:

I was only trying to stir up the pot a little

yeah, i’m helpin ya. :huepfen024:

I don’t think drivers from the one track are better than the other

and you’re already turning down the heat.

Speaking of Sat. night, haven’t heard any feedback on the double file restarts all night and features only with extended races instead of heats.

I’ve talked to 6 people who were in the stands and they were all in favor of both the double file re-starts and the longer features with no heat races . NSS might be on to something .
