Are there any rules on the voting? I was just looking at some results and results look very skewed and suspicious. It would be a shame that someone would take advantage of a good idea to use for personal selfish purposes. Maybe I’m just not familiar with certain drivers name. I don’t know. It’s just hard for me to imagine the UDLMCS being beat by a carting series. JMO
I agree, also in the catergories for the drivers a couple of them that are’nt popular or unheard of are dominating at unreal numbers by the hour so much over the ones that are well known all over,It is really obvious …looks like a couple of people have a certain aol account that changes the ip address of thier computer when ever they turn it on or ghost surfer software program that hides and changes your ip address automaticaly everytime you go on a site…that is really sad that a few people are dishonest like that
Actually, we were discussing this last night at Ocala Speedway. All one has to do is to clear your cookies and vote, and each vote will count. These polls are never totally accurate because there are always those who will find ways to beat the system just because they can. But don’t knock the poll just because it isn’t perfect. It is still fun to participate and someone will get an award in each category. And trust me, there will be those who think the winners are not deserving, accurate polls or not. Why don’t we just have fun doing this, try not to take it too seriously, and enjoy the opportunity to give a little credit to some deserving folks?
Winger - If you haven’t already, please take a moment to visit the homepage of the Desoto Champ Kart Series website. Scroll down to the bottom… and you will see nearly 100 registered drivers for the 2008 season. The arms of the DCKS are much, much longer than many people realize, touching virtually all forms of racing in Florida.
Last Monday, we began contacting our members, crew, and sponsors, and asking them to please vote on the poll. We had no idea we were even nominated until someone called the series, and we have no idea how our name got included. Regardless, we were thrilled, and have made great effort to get our members out, in mass.
We are as surprised, as anyone, at the early results…
Could it be, in today’s society, there is a lot more of a “me” attitude than a “we” attitude? Could it be possible that drivers and their families are far more concerned about voting for “their” guy, and not as much about their favorite series? Several of our racers have mentioned this in discussion, when trying to figure out how we could be leading the poll thus far.
To my knowledge, the DCKS is the ONLY traveling series in Florida that serves free food, to all the drivers and crew, after each feature. It’s a very different atmosphere than most other divisions we observe at the tracks.
Regardless of who you support, please VOTE. And, to whoever it was that put our series on the list, THANK YOU.

BEST OF THE BEST[/SIZE]
With all the good intentions here, it seems a few have made a complete joke of this thing.
I think the Karting series is doing well is because there are ALOT of karters who follow the Desoto Champ Kart Series, there are no individual karters listed in the driver sections (although I know of one who was nominated, just not added:mad:), and the power of Bobs 4 Cycle, a karting forum. Our karts are small, but our numbers are huge. That is why Maxx Bennett is doing so well. He comes from a karting background, the karting community remembers him, and are supporting him. Just like at the track, if someone beats you, they must be cheating:anim_buttkick:. Maybe some of y’alls dirt contingent just need to buy computers:sprachlos020:.
I hope that your words simply came out wrong because the dirt racing community is NOT a bunch of backwoods rednecks that can’t operate a PC. At least that is what it appears that you are insinuating!
The sad truth about the dirt community here in Florida is that a lot of bad blood that was stirred up a while back is still causing dirt racers and fans to shy away from Karnac and Real Racin’ USA. A few people painted Karnac as the absolute devil and that attitude stuck despite the best efforts of Jack Smith and others. And many dirt folks have told me that they believe this poll to be “rigged” just because it is on this site, and therefore they refuse to participate in it. They are dead wrong, but I can’t change their opinions overnight, can I?
I spoke briefly with Jack at the Charity Truckers 200 and I hope to speak with him at length sometime soon as to how to right the wrongs done way back when. I have some ideas, and if he is willing to listen then I am willing to toss them his way. Hopefully in the end we will all be racers and fans, and not defined by dirt, asphalt, or anything else.
If you’ve never watched this “carting series (sic)” then you couldn’t understand.
BTW, a cart is something you sell produce from, a kart is something you drive.
As for the accusation that I referred to dirt racers as rednecks, backwoods, etc, Uh, no, I didn’t. Those would be your words. I merely inferred that if there was such a strong dirt following to vote for a Johnny Collins, or the dirt traveling series, then apparrently they are spending their money on other things or just don’t give a damn.
Get over yourselves.
I voted for the Desoto Champ Kart Series too. My second choice was the TBARA, which I have always voted for in the past.
Florida short track racing is in a state of total disarray, and maybe the fact that a karting series is leading the poll is a good discussion point for a segment on the Inside Florida Racing broadcast.
For the most part… Florida short track promoters are hateful towards each other, several traveling series are at war with each other, the ticket prices at several non-FASCAR tracks are simply too high to attract new fans, and even the media is at odds with each other and hurls insults every week on their broadcasts (from FSTR towards Karnac). At some tracks, racers routinely fight, argue, and use profanity without any regard to who is listening (in front of the fans).
Meanwhile… a little-known karting group named the Desoto Champ Kart Series gets nominated for a very prestigious (in their eyes) poll, to actually compete on an even playing field with the “car” guys. As one of the champ kart racers remarked… “Maybe we are leading the poll because many car racers and promoters have a “me” versus “we” attitude”.
Noone knows how the series got nominated, but everyone involved with it was thrilled. (Maybe Jack, Carol or Jane can explain how the series got on the ballot, but regardless, someone listed it.) Thank you.
This karting group has almost 100 registered drivers for 2008, and has had over 17,000 hits on their website since they started it in Feb. 2008. For a website without a forum, this is a VERY high number. (Ask Jack Smith, or others, if you don’t believe this.) People might be shocked to learn that the Desoto Champ Kart Series website averages MORE hits on their website than most of the other series listed in this poll.
The karting community is a VERY computer-literate group. As one of the racers remarked “It almost doesn’t seem like a fair fight to include us in the poll”. And, if you haven’t ever taken a moment to visit their website, please take 30 seconds out of your life to do so. Scroll down to the bottom of the homepage. The reason that this series is doing well in the polls will become apparent, when you look at the numbers of drivers who wanted their names listed on the 2008 roster.

Thanks to Karnac for including this series in the poll. I hope they kick some tail in this poll, and that maybe… rather than dismissing the results as a “joke”, people might try to understand the reasons why fans and racers of the car divisions have become complacent and disinterested in participating.
Mike
I didn’t mean to insult the karting series with my post. I’m sorry if it came out that way and I can understand why it did. I was asking if there were rules for the contest. I was thinking just one vote. I have been to many UDLMCS races this year and the stands were always full. The fields were huge and the racing great. I couldn’t imagine a better series. That is the point I was trying to make. I have always been impressed with the publicity the karting series has and I’ve posted that on this forum. Unfortunately, I have not seen them race. Something I hope to change. I’m sorry if I offended anyone.

WOW!!..Thanks for those links.
No wonder the “karter interest” is SO HIGH.
That site has 35,000 registered users…and when I looked, over 600 people online. (like in RIGHT NOW)
THAT JOINT HAS IT GOING ON…WHO IS THE GUY/GAL THAT CAME UP WITH THAT?
…and we all thought it was just a couple of “carting” nuts.
It’s a BUNCH of them!!!
Hmmmm…I have been checking in every once in awhile to see how the poll is going, and I noticed a change in the poll for best photographer. Winger’s name has vanished and been replaced by Dave Shank, with Dave shank keeping Winger’s votes. What’s up with that?
Hey BJ,
I asked Jack to remove my name from the poll. Apparently when he did that the votes went to Dave Shank. I just felt there was too much vote stacking in the poll and I didn’t want to be part of it.
Thanks for your honesty. I was hoping that it was some sort of glitch, but I understand your actions. And looking at things as they are now, a lot of vote stacking is going on. In fact, I suspect that there may be one or two folks “helping” me, just like some seem to be “helping” others as well. Nevertheless, I am going to hang in there. As I have said before, I am honored to be respected enough to be nominated, much less have people vote for me over some really tough (and deserving) competition. Win or not, it lets me know that at least some folks feel that I am doing something right.

Your nobility, as you see it…is nothing more than a slap in the face to those that put this together, those that nominated, those who were nominated, those that have voted, (even for you) and those that DO win.
NICE CALL!
Someone already gave you some good advice…“get over yourself!”
Regarding the rules…this is the only one I’ve found.
“Be sure to vote because (e)very vote counts”
GEEZ…find something else to bestow your graciousness on.
