This is So sad

I saw this this morning in our local on-line Florida Today paper. This poor mother did not realize she was hurting her child but today’s economy forced her to add more water than needed to her baby’s bottle just so she could get by for the month. We seem to help every Tom, Dick, and Harry but our own. There are many people today living week by week and some day by day. My grandson also gets WIC and most of the time the 8 cans of powder formula is not enough but his formula is $30.00 a can and that is sometimes a day work for some. Just sad that we don’t take better care of our own sometimes.

Watered-down formula almost kills Tampa tot
ASSOCIATED PRESS ? December 2, 2008

TAMPA ? A Tampa hospital is cautioning cash-strapped parents against watering down baby formula, after a 5-month-old almost died from the money-saving strategy.

La?Damian Barton was hospitalized last week after he had a seizure and stopped breathing. Doctors diagnosed him with water intoxication and malnourisnment. He?s expected to be released Tuesday.

His mother, 23-year-old Jeri Moss, says she had no idea adding the extra water was dangerous. She was trying to stretch the allotment of baby formula cans she receives each month from the federal WIC program for low-income families. The technical college student says she couldn?t afford to buy more.

Cindy Morris, an official with the Hillsborough County Health Department, says WIC isn?t intended to cover all a child?s nutritional needs.

I Am Mad !!!

there should NEVER be a hungry child in AMERICA!!! There are no hungry prisoners !!!

Wait Until All The Facts Are In

Not sure if all the facts are in yet on this one.

It was all over the news yesterday and last night… baby only weighs 8 lbs when he should weigh at least 12 lbs…

This morning on a radio station had a lady indicating there is a possibility of selling some of the formula and watering down the rest. Further indications were the money from the sale of the formula might have been directed toward the purchase of “Nose Candy” (whatever that might be? ? ). Someone asked why was the baby not breast fed and a comment was made that he probably was better off not having that for fear of what might be involved ? ? ?

FILM AT ELEVEN

Get a good look at Mommy and Sonny… there is more to this story than the printed article (IMO).

And you are correct - No Child should go hungry… and guilty persons should be locked up and child removed from that enviroment.

Meanwhile we are fighting poverty in 3rd world countries and forgetting about our problems at home. Typical!

5 months old and not being breast fed? that’s a mouthful right there.

More like she didn’t care.

We seem to help every Tom, Dick, and Harry but our own.

Nope…i’ve always taken care of myself.

Just sad that we don’t take better care of our own sometimes.

How much more free money and food should be handed out? we’ve been rewarding laziness for years now.

His mother, 23-year-old Jeri Moss, says she had no idea adding the extra water was dangerous.

Gee mom must have not tried watering HER food down though.

The technical college student says she couldn?t afford to buy more.

That statement alone torques me!

I see a single mom living in low income housing, state is probably paying for the school, she gets wic and who knows what else but the baby is the only one suffering due to watered down formula…hmmmmmm? Why isn’t this woman in jail?

Jane, you seem very compassionate to your fellow man but come on…"this poor woman?

I have 3 kids that are 18, 14 and 4. I have NEVER had any agency help.NEVER filed for unemployment and i’m 42 yrs old.

I came out of high school and right to work with no experience.

I am, nor was no different or better off than all the people who want to sit on their FAT ASS and have everything handed to them instead of getting a job, applying one’s self and actually become successful.

Watering down baby formula to save money? I can think of 10 things in her daily life to go without so she’d have food for the little one.

You kinda see how the kid rates…huh?

She pleaded ignorance to stay out of jail and maybe work in a higher allowance or get a bigger check.

LOCK HER ASS UP NOW AND TAKE THE KID!!!

best thing that can come out of this story.

P.S.

This rant does not include the physical or mentally disabled people who need some assistance due to not being ABLE to work.

It’s sad that someone that made a baby can’t take the time to read a pamphlet, pay attention in free classes or listen to a nurse that tells you under no circumstances do you give a newborn water at that age or cut anything with water.

Something that always irritated me is they never hand out an owners manual for babies. Some people just don’t know how to raise a kid and many have no common sense. We were lucky to have our parents help us with a lot of these things. I don’t know this woman or her story, except for what I’ve read, so I can’t pass judgment on her. However, my wife and I raised foster children for over 25 years and I know what a lot of these people go through. Some are lazy but many are just victims of circumstances. It has nothing to do with laziness. Often it does but it often doesn’t. Many object to providing help but how much do you think it would cost to put the mother in jail and the kid in foster care? Believe me it’s much cheaper to provide some SHORT term help. However, there must be limits.
BTW, I’m glad you put you P.S. in your message, Benny.

Huh?

WINGER----I’m in shock…YOU??..A FOSTER PARENT???..POOR KIDS! :confused::sprachlos020::aetsch013::aetsch013:

LOL:huepfen024:

Old Style Guy From Ocala

Yo Buddy… I am in agreement with you on that one…

Just imagine WINGER as a foster dad…

“Hey Dad, can I borrow one of your camera’s?”…
“Heck no kid… I’ve got to go take a picture of a tree today. And besides that , I’ve got to practice more so I can take pictures of races some day”.

WINGER as a foster dad, makes me very happy that I had “Regular” parents to “TRY” and raise me. (I was hell on wheels as a kid - didn’t calm down until I started getting those Social Security checks).

Just Kidding you WINGER… we all love you in a non-gay way (well cept Ole Style Racer - he looks kinda hard at your butt).

For all intents and purposes there are free baby manuals. Since this woman is going to some sort of college she is clearly aware that we have these things in this country known as libraries and in these libraries you can actually check out books for…FREE! And you know what, they have books on how to raise babies. I know because I read a bunch of them when we found out my wife was pregnant.

If this mom actually sold the baby formula and added more water than needed for stuff up her nose, she does not deserve this baby. God gives us children as a blessing and that is exactly what they are. Our paper only ran the story I posted and if you read that, it sounds like she was just trying to stretch her formula. But if she truly was using it to buy drugs, she DOES NOT NEED THAT BABY. There are many childless couples that would love to have that child and give it a good, loving home and plenty of food. Shame on her for calling herself a mom.

This is off the subject but in my neighborhood alone, I have a 14 year old pregnant and a 16 year old pregnant and they did it on purpose because they wanted a baby. Now the 14 year old smokes pot and cigarettes and does not worry about what she is doing to that child. The 16 year old was the same way. Their so-called parents do NOTHING and they don’t seem to care that their CHILDREN are having CHILDREN. Honestly, I don’t know what this work is coming to. No wonder God thinks we are bad people when we do nothing to discipline our children and just let them have babies. I also know of a 22 year old due anyday now that has constantly smoked pop and taken pills her whole pregnancy and when her baby has something wrong with her, it is a girl, she will expect the state to fix it. I would like to take all these kids and shake them silly but it would do no good I know. Most of this comes from parents who DO NOT CARE what their children do and some have gotten their children on the drugs themselves since they do them.

Sorry guys, but this does make me very, very angry. We have some really bad parents out there who just don’t care, don’t have the time, or teach their kids these things themselves and don’t see anything wrong with a 14 year old having a baby. I bet if you asked the average teenager what the 10 Commandments are, they would not know because they have never been taught one good thing in life. How sad.

News Flash

Just heard this morning on the radio - DJ (aka Bubba the Love Sponge) has offered formula for that baby (until the Dr’s say he doesn’t need it anymore) if MOMMY will submit AND PASS a drug test.
Ole Bubba said he will have enough formula delivered to the Mom every Friday from now until the baby is old enough to do without per the Doctors but MOM has to pass the drug test.

It will be very interesting to see this unfold… I just hope they use a hair sample rather than her peein in a cup… hair samples (and her hair is long), will tell a better “Longer” story.

Round D’ Round Racer
So Ga (yea, we have Radio’s and T.V.'s hear 2)

And what happens if the mother doesn’t pass the drug test ? The Love Sponge keeps all of his money to himself ? The baby will be just as hungry ,and just as much in need , whether the mother passes the drug test or not .

AJ, can you be anymore of a government owned, spread the wealth democrat?

Hey AJ

Perhaps you think they should give the formula anyway, then Mom will have more stuff to sell, more drugs to buy… NOT…

I would imagine if Mom doesn’t pass the test, there would be some thought about taking the baby away and give it a chance in life…

Or should we do iet your way and just see what happens…

Boy, you sure stepped on yourself with that last post of yours huh?

Round D’ Round Racer
So. Ga (the place that doesn’t like people like AJ)

I hope you’re smarter than that . I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt . Yes , i damn sure do think that the DJ or anyone else for that matter should GIVE the baby food if its hungry . And that goes for any baby anywhere whos hungry .
Now about this drug test . I haven’t seen any evidence that the girl is anything other than what was reported . A young mother that didn’t know any better , or didn’t have much money , or both . But little by little , now shes a addict that should go to jail and have her baby taken away . We’re getting a little carried away here boys . If i have to rely on the judgement of someone who calls himself " Bubba the Love Sponge " i think i’ll wait for the whole story to come out .
Fred , if only Democrats are concerned about a baby going hungry , considering that the baby has no choice in the matter , then i am certainly a Democrat .

Let me dumb this down a little for i see my rant was too long and confusing.

the MOM should have been the one in the hospital suffering from malnutrition…not the baby.

She was skimping in the WRONG place…bet the car has gas in it!

This is neglect…claiming ignorance is a joke.

Lock her ass up and let someone adopt the kid that will worry about buying formula and supplies for baby THEN worry about the other petty crap.

I will go hungry to make sure my kids are cared for properly…looks to me like she’s not that concerned about hers.

The baby will be just as hungry ,and just as much in need , whether the mother passes the drug test or not .

here, i splain in this in terms even a Democrat can understand;
if the mother fails an official drug test, Child Protective Services will seize the baby and remove it from the home.

you might not like the idea of the kid going to foster care or an orphan home but that’s one hell of a lot better than staying in a house with a mother who would rather candy her nose than feed her child. even if Bubba fully funded her child’s food needs, what else is she going to neglect? how often does that diaper get changed? how is she going to keep the kid in clothes? how much time or attention will she be devoting to the child?

whether Bubba spends a dime or keeps all of his ill gotten gains for himself, he is forcing a glaring spot light on the question of why this happened in the first place.

and that’s plenty enough of a “good deed” for me.

Fred , if only Democrats are concerned about a baby going hungry

i dunno. the idea that she’s so damn stupid that she couldn’t tell that she was starving her child to death would seem to be more than sufficient cause to be throwing up red flags to me.

all you see is “hungry child”, you’re incapable of asking the questions “why” and “what are the implications here”.
