Now these guys have it figured out: lots of fun racing for a little money. They are running 24 hour enduro style races with junkers. Read over their site and note their emphasis on adding silly fun back into the sport. The concept has spread in the last few years from their initial event in California to a series of 10 or so events that span the country.
Wouldn’t it be cool if someone in Florida ran one of these? I guarantee you that I’d be in it. There is an event coming to S. Carolina in April…anyone interested?
I’ve read about this in Car and Driver. If we get five drivers, that’s $100 per driver since the car has to come in under $500. Plus our registration fees.
even if you win the race, you’re still in the hole after entry fees, car prep, tires and fuel. might as well run SCCA, since you’ll need an SCCA license or equivalent anyways:
“2.2: Driver Eligibility: All drivers must have a valid US or International driver’s license and a valid competition license (club memberships, rally licenses, and instructional licenses are not accepted). The ONLY acceptable competition licenses are: AMP, SCCA, Grand Am, FIA, NASA, NASCAR, CSRG, ARCA, WestCar, SRL, Legends/600, USAC, CASA, BCRA, BBORR, NCMA, MMRA, Barber Comp, CRA, ICSCC, HMSA, HSR, SVRA, and VMC. If you don’t have one of these, you’ll need to buy a LeMons competition card; these cost $50, are good for one calendar year, and are made available to drivers after their team is officially accepted.”
glancing at it, i see they’re requiring neck braces now. you guys better get John Tenney involved. :huepfen024:
Ocala ran two of these. A 24 hour in 2006 and a 12 hour in 2007 using any type car. We had a mod,4 cyl. cars, street stock and bombers. A street stock won both years and the events were basically a bust for the track.:sprachlos020:

A street stock won both years and the events were basically a bust for the track.
yeah, but what was lacking was the fun and carnival atmosphere. Ocala ran it like a super length enduro, with enduro payouts and after race tear down and no practical spending limit.
IIRC, the guy who won both years brought two cars and only ran one. the other one sat in the pits as a parts mule. which isn’t a bad idea, but it wouldn’t fly at a LeMons race.
I have been wanting to run Lemons for a few years now. Just never came close enough to florida. Gotta love reading about the BS inspections and penalties for rought driving and what not
Sounds like a great time. I’d love to get involved, but other than a shop, I have no other equipment to contribute. We could build it here, if someone has the means to haul it…
If you want it to push like a dump truck, I’m your man! A regular Charlie Daniels with the torque wrench. You know like Days of Thunder, “a turn here a little wedge there.” And the special set of matched tires…
Ok all of you deadbeats… You don’t even call me direct with a good one… LOL>… Count me in, I can tow and even drive… That is of course if Mr. Feature winner (Boneman) will get out of the car to let anyone else have fun… ROFLMAO… Ok ok…
Perusing through the rules… All safety equipment, Tires, wheels, brakes, and exhaust system aft of the headers does not count towards the $500… hmmm where was that car… Oh yes I remember…
