I’ll be there, my V8 StockCar racing partner (Squeak Kennedy) is driving a BMW in the Koni Challenge Race.
Every year I say I’ll skip the 24 Hours, but this year I think I mean it, which will be the first time in about ten years I won’t be in attendance.
I keep finding myself increasingly bored with the DP class (too slow and too ugly) and only interested in the GTs and each year, as a tent camper, the treatment I receive by the track and its workers gets worse and worse and the area to camp with a tent gets smaller and smaller.
I only went last year for a few hours because SPEED gave me some free tickets and that’s most likely the only way to get me back for a few hours - free tickets.
Thats funny Jack, I am on the 2nd year of my own hiatus after 25 or so yrs of hitting it every year. There really is no substitute for being there though. With as much action as there is on the track at any time, Speed can’t cover it all.
I have given up on the aesthetics of the DP’s. The speeds arent so bad and is usually offset by the competition. Basically, I need another “at the track” fix. Probably wont stay into the evening like I did back in the day, but maybe a good 6 or so hrs will suffice. Probably a grandstand trip this year.
There is nothing like watching those guys go through kink in the infield up close - or - the infield exit to turn 1. One of the things I dont like is the way they sperate the field on the start now, the sight of 75 cars coming to the green was always awesome.
