Palm Beach reunion?

So how did the Palm Beach Speedway reunion go yesterday? Monday afternoon seems like an odd time to hold it, but hopefully everything went great.

Palm Beach Reunion

Rex and others,

The Palm Beach Reunion was a smashing success. The organizers had no clue how it would go on a Monday afternoon starting at 4 PM and I think they were blown away. Not sure of the total but it had to be in the 250-300 range easily. The South Florida Fair is also going on at present is there was a neat carnival atmosphere too.
Of course the headliners were Bobby and Donnie Allison and Red Famrer, all of whom raced at and won at the old speedway many times. Toss in other top talent such as Bobby Brack, Dick Anderson, Jim Crowe, Paul Connors, Jack Choquette, Dumont Smith, Marty Handshaw, Bob Eggert, Billy Barnwell, Pete Willoughby, Speedy Reeves, Jim Tuning, Bill Hess and Teddy Lafluer and you knew it had to be good.
Some of the others included Cocoa Begtrup, Bob and Dick Rahilly, Charlie Infinger, Doc McKinney, Pete Leufkens, Randy and Teddy Barnwell, Danny Maddox, Mike Toemmes, Bruce Griffin, Al and Kenny Kuhn, Mike Howell, Dick Crowe, Billy Taylor, Jim McCoy, Fred Schenk, Phil and Wally Finney, Chuck Wooten, Roger Boone, Mike Atkins, Charlie Worth, Ricky and Steve Throop and on and on.
Certainly a good time was had by all and thanks to the fair board for finally deciding to honor the racers and fans for a speedway that closed following the 1983 season. Maybe gone, but certainly not forgotten.

Boy thats so cool I used to watch most of those guys. That sure brings back memories that property was much better used then than it is now. For those who never got the chance to see a race there you really missed something. that was a HIGH BANKED oval and had some great racing. I sure do miss all of those old tracks I was lucky enough to attend. Wish I was there sucks to have to work.

there used to be the start/finish line section of the track as part of the parking lot for the amplitheater.did anyone notice if it is still there?I wish I could have made it down.

:frowning: Awww man. Wish I’d’ve known. I’m up here in Kissimmee racing my R/C car this week, so couldn’t have made it down there anyways :\ I thought the South Florida Fair was in February, anyways. Now, those names that were listed…are those all guys that actually showed up…?? Or just a list of “registered attendees”? If all those guys made it, and those of you got to see and meet those guys…I missed a helluva reunion…I wanna see pics

Here is one picture that I took of Paul Conners, Red, Donnie, Jimmy Crowe, and Bobby holding the Orange Blossom trophy. The only bad thing about the reunion is that there just wasn’t enough time.
