I just wanted to say a little about what I consider to be one of the great honors of my life. First to be asked by Jack to help present the Pete Orr Sportsmanship award, in it self is an honor. But to be able to give it to someone who I think is a wonderful example of Pete Orr. The way he conducts himself in the race car but more importantly how he presents himself outside the race car. Pete was a great person in and out of the car and that is what will forever seperate him from many a driver. Pete definately could get it done in the race car, one of the best around. But what and how he gave of himslef outside the car is special. A husband, father and a guy who helped all who asked. I have the great privilege of being a close friend of Pete Orr and the family whom I love very much. I also have the same close relationship with Chad Pierce and his Mom and Dad who I also love very much. I am honored to have Chad as driver of my truck, I wish I could give him the truck many others have but he has done so much with what he has been given, for that I am very thankful. I also want to say congrats to David Rogers who is another of the great guys in racing, one who also is much like Pete Orr and knew the meaning of winning that race. You could hear the feeling and respect in his voice as he choked the words, " he was my friend and I miss him" in victory lane. We all miss Pete Orr and will forever. I have to say that was a great weekend for me and I will remember it always…again congrats to Chad and David…
I’ve known Chad since he was my oldest son’s 4th grade “reading buddy” at Pershing Elementary in Orlando… Very well deserved and a true representative of a fine man in Pete Orr… man, I still miss him… Butch and Barbrara Pierce are incredible people and their fruit does not fall far from the tree… Congrats Chad!!!
Pete Orr…
I couldnt agree more. All of the men mentioned are the cream of the crop… i didnt know Pete very well but as soon as i met him i knew he was special. it has been a huge loss for racing. David amazes me. he is not old but no spring chicken either and he wins time after time. a true gentleman. Chad… just a huge smile from me. I finally got to meet Barbara up at Lake City a couple years ago. you are right about where apples land.
Racing brings so many awesome people together… I LOVE IT!!!
