P.S. - As for the idea of a Reunion, I’m ALL for it, and would love to help in any way that you’d like.
One personal opinion here though… I think a 2-day event would be tough to arrange. That would force these guys into either picking and choosing which day, or having to spring for a Hotel room to stay for both days. Not much ca$h floating around these days!

I agree, OR have the drivers that drove at that track only. Then the FANS will have to make (2) shows to see all the drivers and cars. :ernaehrung004:
A couple other guys who raced at NSS just about every week, Mark Price who died fighting a fire and Terry Johns who died in an automobile accident. Also John Anderson who came down and raced a lot during speedweeks was also killed in and auto accident. The first two were just regular hard working guys. I remember Price always having a cartoon character painted on his hood, and who can forget Terry Johns’ mannequin.
Guys… It would be a Memorial Weekend, but the actual event would take place at New Smyrna… I think it would be great to plan for the same weekend as the Marion Edwards, Jr. race at OSW… Plenty of time to plan ahead and maybe this can be something of a yearly event just as the Modified reunion…
why is the Marion Edwards Memorial at OSW instead of NSS, which was the site of the accident. I know there’s a good reason, I just can’t think of it. Thanks, billy
the man who died of a heart attack at thundercross was kevin curran’s dad number 55 bomber . he had a heart attack after his son finished racing at thunder cross i beleive the year was 1997 . and steve medinger was killed racing at clewiston he was the owner . and also frank draple died of a heart attack at clewiston after he raced there one day it was afternoon i beleive it was on a sunday . i also beleive he raced at palm beach at one time and hialeah .
Dave, you really brought back some memories of drivers that I had not thought about in a long time. Terry Johns was one of my Dad’s best friends and they did so much together building cars to go racing on Saturday nights. With Terry, you couldn’t figure out what type of car it was because he would replaced torn up body panels with whatever he had. Soemtimes the car was a Chevy, Buick, Ford and a little Dodge. I remember the doll in his car wearing a helmet.
I was there the night Richard Coffin crashed. Never forget it.
Of course there is Homer Gordon. I was not there the night it happened and have not been to NSS since. But if you put together an event, I will make myself go.
Thanks Dave, I was a pretty regular spectator there then, but I wasn’t there that particular night. I thought I remebered being told that his throttle stuck.
Coffin’s crash was horriffic. It was prior to the inside wall that is now in place and his throttle hung off turn 2 he turned down into the infield and his car seemed to pick up speed on the damp grass and he impacted the wall between turns 3 and 4 head on. There was no way anyone could have survived that impact.
