Dirt.
Sorry Carol had to do it. You know I hope you guys had a great night.
I will Testify to that!
We had some awesome racing. The track staff outdid themselves. The program ran off without a hitch. I think we had a little over 100 cars in the pits and a goood crowd. The only complaint I heard was we ran too late. The die heart fans were there till the bitter end. And don’t you know it had to be on a night we had to turn the clock ahead. I got home at 3:30 day light savings time and time I got my equipment put up and got a shower it was 4:30…OUCH!!! I think there was 11 classes plus the wheelie firetruck. Now that thing was awesome. I started on the 3rd video tape, each are 1 hour, so I suppose I am going to have too much for 1 DVD. We also shot 3 cameras in road warrior, Outlaw Modified and sportsman. We had a camera in turn 2, turn 1 down the front straight, and the main camera shooting the whole race. Now that’s going to be a bear to edit, but I love it. Bob…
I’m glad to hear of the good fan turn-out. They’re the lifeblood of any track. My only question would be ---- you mention “a little over 100 cars” and then later “11 classes”. Is this good? What if the same 100 folks that could afford to build and race the 100 cars, had combined them into, let’s say 4 or 5 classes. 20 cars +/- for each class, rather than the 10 or less as it now stands. I realize that they are not divided equally, but for a couple of classes with 15 cars (possibly) there would be others with 5 or 6. Not even enough for interesting hot laps, never mind a race! If the track is catering to “the back gate” then no number of classes is too much but if they insist that they are putting on their show for people (in the grandstands) to pay and see, then give them a few classes with car counts that make for true competition.
In closing, I wish nothng but the best for CCMP, or any of the other short tracks, but, please, cut down on the quantity (of classes) and make it up in quality.

Actually Carol, this post could mirror Ocala Speedway last Friday night.
A new fan came back to me at the gate and ask if this was a dirt track. When I confirmed it was, he said it was the cleanest dirt track he had ever been to.
DO IT RIGHT TONIGHT (D.I.R.T…Mikes motto)
Can’t go wrong with that.
Glad you guys had a great night too Carol. Keep up the good work. :ernaehrung004:

Shiloh,
Agree with you 100%! Wayyyyyyyyyyy too many classes! Oh, and DIRT too.
Number Of Classes
Ocala runs a max of 5 classes each night. On special events only 3 or 4 classes. A steady program starting at 8pm and rarely going past 11pm.
Agree though…too many classes make for a boring and long evening for the fans.
-JIM-
Ask any successful short track promotor in the US and Canada and the secret to keeping the doors open and fans in the stands is a program of 3 to 4 classes max. and get the fans on the road by 11:00. You hear it all the time in the promotor workshops, and in SCR and Speedway Illustrated magazines.
Too many junker classes tends to bore fans and many of the classes the average fan can not tell one from the other.
Ocalasp76,
I take that as an invitation to visit your home track and I certainly intend to!I make it up to Volusia occasionally but not real often. I LOVE dirt track racing and Hendry County is where I usually go but that is not open right now. We down in So. Florida have got our fingers crossed that Ken Kinney is going to give us a great place to race and spectate very soon! I WILL make it to Ocala soon!

I think the promoters already know that. They are just stuck between the shell and the tree. If they just bring 4 classes, they’ll end up with not enough cars in the pits and a worst show.
There are too many classes//series the way it is and not enough participants in each. So, what do you do as a promoter to survive? Because believe it or not, this is a survival game in these day and age.
Everybody knows that 3 to 5 classes is enough, but with 25 & more cars per classes. Which classes bring that on any given night at ANY track in Fla???
A good scenario would be a good !-late model class, 2-street stock, 3- a 4 cylinder with any name you want to give it and 4- street car, enduro type, kind of class. A 5 years rules & purses package and stick to it.
But, this would take time to develop and who says time says $$$, and promoters are squeeze to the limit right now. So hang on, because theses multi classes shows are here for a while.[/I][/B]
