Cool and Unusual Car "Numbers"

From Golden Gate: Alexander in the #500 Colt and racing against Frank Fyfe in the 8-ball…

There used to be a guy show up at the old Saint Augustine Raceway with what I believe was a Ford Fairlane numbered, “289”

That was the late J. D. Lewis…

Don Gregory…

Yep…that always stood out to me too, Jimmy. The “7” way back there and the purple and white color scheme…I guess that was waaaayyyyyy before Jegs went all yellow and black…lol

I remember Dan Jones (again, I think cuz my memory is getting as short as…Binner’s winkie) in an old “Southern Modified” with an “x100” or a “100x” at East Bay, too…I’m sure Mr. (Encyclopedia Jones) Westerman can verify that one too…lol

Oh…just remembered David Schmauss had his Thundercars (East Bay) painted and lettered like a popular brand (EZ Widers) of rolling papers and numbered “1.25” and “1.50”

okay who’s gonna ak me “What are rolling papers?”

There was a Street Stock-type car at Citrus a few years ago # $1,000,000
The Richard Marinelli M-!, driver by Wayne Reutimann, Gary Balough & Kevin Collins
Dave Kneisel always had # 711 cars
Fred Smith had the $8
Ron Williams drover the Evil-1
Phil Edwards had the 2-cents
Mike Balzano’s E-1
“Big Red” Paul Putt had the Roman IV
Barefoot Bob McCreadie had the “Nine”, written in cursive
The Rio Brothers R-10 cars
The Ritter/Kleintopp 666, one of which (the Falcon) Wayne Reutimann was almost decapitated in.
The Larry Kline “A”
Mike McLaughlins “cra-Z8”
The Mike Shippee 10-10
The Nolan Swiwt 10-Pins
Lew Boyds 181… Rick martel used the same number
Ed Howes team cars… Go1ng, and G0ne… also just the “H”
Gary Reddick’s V3

… plenty more later…

Two more #711’s I can think of right off-hand…

Jimmy Doyle down at Hialeah had a #711. Not only was the number unusual, but the car had a Mirada body on it - really unusual for the Late Models of the early to mid-1980s.

Another 711 was Bob Polverari’s Modified from up north. He had a coupe with “dice” painted on it (I think one of the DAARA guys owns that car now), and then had a “modern” version with the Vega and Cavalier bodied cars.

OJ, I can remember Schmauss at Golden Gate in the Thunder Cars with a #105; don’t recall the 1.50 and 1.25.

Coupla other cars I can recall locally: Paul Grynewicz ran a #4T (after running the #40 for years), and had a team car #4T2. Don’t recall right off-hand who drove the second car, though.

Likely his own son, Toby

Tom Wilson P-13
Leo Cleary’s T-5
Dick Berggren’s #880… Roy Morral also had a Sprint car in PA with many different drivers
Buck Holidays C-38
Brad Malcuit’s #RM1
Fred Rahmer z-51
Wayne Brooks and Ronnie Adams both had a UFO
Red Farmers F-97
Mark Banal’s T-8
Freddie Smith’s Bazz00ka
John Gill’s K1ng
Bobby Dixons 205, and David Schmauss # 105
Wayne Young’s 888… Rene Charland also had the same number at one time
Supermod owner, Herm Graf’s # C-15
Bob Linemans USA-1

if i am not mistaken Phil Orr ran the number 500 in 1958 at the last race on the beach.

Up north there were…

8T6- dirt modified driven by Chip Slocum
4Q- dirt modifeid driven by Kenny Brightbill
The Rio Bros. always owned cars and they were the # R10

I can think of alot of strange #'s from the northeast.

Dan Jones at East Bay…

Dan Jones.jpg

The M-93 was a car that ran during the late 50s - early 60s at Orlando… Jim Yarbrough is in the picture here… Many others including George Tidd and Robbie Ashton drove it also…

Butch Jelley in the “X”
Butch Tittle in the “Z”
Will Cagle in the “C”
Karl Pittinger in the Circle K
Billy Pauch in the “L”
Jay Aten in the A-10
Keith Kauffman in the K33
Kerry Schloder in the K46

4k

Amanda Google’s number in FASTRUCK’s FAST Kids division was 4K. It was in memory of her brother Kay. Who was lost in a Hwy crash (not his fault).

Fasson…the A car was owned by Big B.

Les Katona in the K3
Art Leidel in the $
Bob Barone in the 7B
Lou Fray in the X ( ARDC Midget)

Hey, Jerry, it wasn’t Toby in the 4T2; Toby was running a Mini Stock at the time. I was good friends with the Grynewicz’s. It was Tom something if I recall.
