Just wondering which class everyone thinks is the best bang for your buck, I have drove Mini stocks, Super Lates & Pro-Trucks… I am aware you can not race any class for cheap, wondering what class people have had the most fun in??
Hey Aj… It all depends upon which class enthuses you the most… I know a bunch of people (including myself) who has run different classes and loves them all… It all depends upon what type of money you want to run… And what type of fields you want all the time…
Since you haven’t run them at all, you might want to see if you can run a super/street stock for a race, they are a blast and almost always have a great field pretty much all over with great competition throughout… In addition they are reasonably affordable to be competitive…
Strictly stocks are a blast, but probably won’t thrill you because of the classes you have before… But they are a very cost effective class to run and always alot of fun…
Trucks are awesome as well, as you well know… But they can be a little more costly to be competitive… And sometimes the fields the last year or so are a little smaller.
Modifieds… What can one say… An awesome class!!! what can one say usually the fastest thing on the track… Not enough adjectives to describe these cars… Now e-mods are gaining in popularity, supposed to be the same as regular mods with a much less costlier motor (super Stock)…
Sportsman… Really neat class, used to be one of the biggest classes going… Great cars to run, not quite as costly as other classes ( lates/supers/Reg. Mods)… And they are a whole bunch of fun…
Late Models/Super lates… Again like the mods, an awesome class. The ride is awesome, the competition fierce… Hmmm can you say fast and competitive…
Mini Stocks… Nice class, just needs to be pumped up again…
Sportsman (if you use a crate motor) by far however the e-mod class looks like fun. I spent less money racing Sportsman cars than I did super stocks, had more fun, the cars are easier to work on and parts are easier to find.
Plus the cars are close enough that you can run them at different tracks w/o too many changes.
You asked, so you have to hear me out. Believe it or not, I really like the modified mini stocks. They have less power than a car like Ed’s old Sportsman, but are about as fast. Why? Because they are fast through the corners, and you have to be very aggressive with the throttle. This class teaches you to drive 'em in deep, and mash the gas ASAP. All classes are supposed to be this way, but if you mess up in mini stocks you can’t rely on hundreds of Hp to make up for it.
Also, they are modern, adjustable cars with few junkyard parts. I don’t use much fuel in a night, and they are smaller and easier to store and to tow.
The obvious problem is that the engines are too expensive, and as a result the car count is not too healthy at most tracks.
Most fun I’ve had was driving a super late for 4 or five races. The G’s were incredible!
Thats pretty easy, 700hp, about 1400 lbs., direct drive, wide tires and holds the one lap record at every short track in the state.
My opinion is choose the class you can afford to be competitive and have fun in. I have ran about everything except sprints and supers but am currently building a super. To me it is a toss up between Mini stock and modifeds and not e-mods and before I get bashed nothing against them it’s just not for me. I can’t comment on super lates yet have not took mine to the track.
the most fun i ever had was the one time i got the chance to race a fg8 bus at adale! hands down that was freakn awsome!!! but we run dirt now, so i have say eastbay streetstocks are my favorite.
Reread the question. The most fun CLASS to run would have to be the one with the most cars. I remember racing against 40+ cars almost every week in the Runabout class at OSW in '89/ '90. What a blast!
sprint cars and superlates were a lot of things but fun wasent what i would call them.
Fun was the first endro that i sterted 12th out of 140 cars there were cas on both sides frount and rear. i pased and got pased more times in the first 50 laps than ever in any year of racing. After 50 laps i pitted and we changed drivers. I dont rember who took over but we did it 4 times. i never laught so hard in my life. Now that was fun. no one cared who won or lost just how much fun we had. Rember Pat Nanny won $5,000 with a car that was left at the track for junk.

That was one of the reasons that I mentioned the Super/Street stock class… It isn’t one of the “glamorous” classes but it sure is a fun class that is usually got a good car count and isn’t as crazy expensive as alot of them… .
Have a great day all…
you can have fun in most anything that goes fast

Don I remember that enduro. It was a hoot. I have a video of it some where. I remember another where we started 204 cars on a Suday. When the leader got to the start finish line to complete the first lap he had to knock the rear cars out of the way. I have got that somewhere too. I need to get some help and get all my tapes from years past down here in my studio so I can put my finger on them at will. Bob.
The most fun I ever had in a race was a Motorcycle Enduro in New Jersy called the Sandy Lane enduro. It was 100 miles and was the most gruling woods ride I had ever been on. I got lost 4 or 5 times but I had to complete it so I could find the finish. I was a florida boy and didn’t know any thing about Jersey. I think they started me around 6AM and I found the finish at 7PM or so. It was dark. I was floored when they called my name at the diner that night, I won my class. I was the only one in my class to finish. I was riding a 250 and I couldn’t do that now if I had to. Course that was 1963 and I was a might younger. Bob…
Hell Bob…
The Ark was still drying out at that time wasn’t it…
ROFLMAO…
As I slap my own hand for being such a meany… . LOL
It very well could have been Duane, I couldn’t find my butt with both hands so I’d suppose if the ark was out there I wouldn’t have found it.
hea Bob i was in the desoto speedwagon in that big endro rember.
Now that was a race.
Yes I remember, that was quite possibly the craziest race I have ever seen, There was so much happing that I couldn’t possibly get all the action it was happening every where. I can remember a car tha was spun coming down the back strecth a few times and ended up in the wrong direction right in front of me. He had collected 8 or 10 cars immediately. What a hoot that must have been to drive. Bob…
