Figgered I’d get everyone fired up over this one…LOL…
So let’s see what we have here.
February 19th. Saturday night. Hmmmm…do I go to:
A) New Smyrna’s 100-lapper for the Super Late Models, last night of the World Series, with NASCAR Modifieds?
B) Volusia’s last night?
C) East Bay for the last night of 360 Sprints?
D) Ocala for the USAC show?
E) Inverness for their opener (which is supposed to feature Super Late Models but - will they all be at New Smyrna, or will some stay “home” to get a jump on points over those that go to the World Series?)?
F) DeSoto for their opener (which “features” a buncha four-cylinder classes)?
G) Auburndale for the Legends/Bandeleros WinterNationals?
Why…WHY…on earth do these people schedule their stuff up against what should be the best FULL WEEK (PLUS) of racing on the LAST NIGHT of Speedweeks?? A friend of mine is headed down there Tuesday for stuff at the “big track”; he’s been doing it for years. I told him about a lot of the short track stuff going on down there. You know what? He never knew there were even any other tracks in the area. “Yeah, about ten miles south is New Smyrna, and about 15-20 miles west is Volusia.” Guess where I sent him? He’s gonna head over to New Smyrna on Friday for the Richie Evans race, then over to Volusia on Saturday for the finale’ there. He may even head the two hours west to Ocala for a USAC night earlier in the week. Think I’m gonna send him to DeSoto or Inverness? Nope. The better racing will be at NSS or VSP. Definitely not going to send him to Auburndale to watch a buncha “go karts”…LOL…(not taking anything away from the Legends guys, but they’re just not what I’m into…).
Same thing with the IceBreaker. It used to be the “big” season opener after Speedweeks - on a Sunday afternoon. The Governor’s Cup was a “first Sunday in November” tradition for years. The Cracker 200 and Orange Blossom? Traditionally Sunday shows. What happened? Why the move to a “nighttime” race?
Triple Crown. Pffft. :aetsch013: One race every three months does not a “Triple Crown” make. Run all three races in the same weekend, at three different tracks, with the Governor’s Cup as the finale’ on Sunday. My picks would be Inverness on Friday night for a 100-lapper; Auburndale on Saturday for a 125-lapper, and then the 200 on Sunday. Heat races. No boring single-car time trials. Make 'em race their way into the show.
Just some thoughts from a now-transplanted Florida race fan.
Y’all have a good 'un :ernaehrung004:
