Can any shed some light on what the six trucks were dqed for? Had Ricky checked hard the first two nights, would there be any trucks last night?
I know it was late, but no info on six trucks getting the treatment at speedweeks?
Since no first hand account has appeared…
Warning! Second hand information follows!
All the trucks are supposed to be in the 9/1 compression range, but tech put the pump to them and all the top cars were off by a mile. Some were 10/1, others were 11+/1. The pump method is not an exact science, it has a few tenths tolerance, but in this case, everyone was far enough off to be confident of an accurate result.
I understand that some of the trailers had already left the track, and had to be recalled, unloaded and checked.
Sad to say, the win went to a 12 year old who did a video game style punt on a veteran driver, and knocked him out of second place in the last corner. Not a very satisfying result!
So according to one of the resident know-it-alls around here, it is the job of tech to GET you right, rather than DQ you. What happened here? Why weren’t the trucks pumped on the first night of their 3 night series? Doing it this way sends everyone home angry, confused and all set to bash the system for the next 11 months.
Just heard from one of the drivers: they got DQ’d for being 0.1 too high. They were initially cleared through tech, then called back for the compression check.
A pump cannot read that accuratly. If an engine is that close, it must be taken apart, displacement measured and the heads CC’d. I sure hope this truck didn’t get DQ’d for 0.1.
Thanks for the info! .1 to be seems a bit close for a dq! what is the tolerance for the pump compared to the tolerance of the crate motor? just asking, more that ten to one then your are wrong.
if the engine is cold you can get with in .2 and thats why we allways gave them .5. look at the slm rules 9.5 to1.
In the past we would pump and p and g all the cars on thrs. then the new cars each day as they came in. Dont know how they do it now. The first year they quit dooing it . It wae to mutch work. Now iy a new cew so i dont know. I dont think aany one wouls dq somone for .1 on a wistler or give them the chance to tear it down…who is going to do the math??
don62
we got dq’d after a win on one of the nights in the crate motor class for being 10.2 the rule is 10.0 the next morning when it was cold it pumped 10.1 was told the motor was 10.0 by engine builder .2 is roughly 3 cc Ricky worked with us to washer the spark plugs and make it right which we did and did not slow down one bit. .1 or .2 wrong is wrong a little here and there when does it end the 604 motors come 9.6 so we get .4 to play with knowing what we know now we should have gotten checked before we raced which Ricky said he would be happy to do, and i know he did to some guys. Ricky is brutal in tech but the rules are made to be followed not broken.
Rusty
If .2 or .3 make no difference, why not build the motor at 8.7??? This way you could smile to victory with no stress at all…It’s funny that the excess or lack of is always on the side that it could help never vice versa!!!
Would all of this matter if they were running sealed crate motors? I mean checked and sealed from the factory and if repairs are needed resealed by a different builder than the one that repaired it? Just a question.
Not being smart but you can buy the GM seals and seal it yourself if you want to cheat it up.
I didn’t know tech was there to help you get your car legal. I thought that was what the rules are for?

The ‘‘Sealed’’, ‘‘Spec’’, ‘‘Crate’’ motors deal were put in place more to level the playing field, cut the price down and encourage new comers to join the party. It did not really worked out that way but that is another story.
As far as the tech men job, they are normally there to tech the cars, from safety to legality, and help anybody in needs of answers in that particular area. But in the end, it is the racers duty to make sure his(her) cars are conforms to the letter of the rules.
And on a side note, I think there are way too many rules out there today. Waaaaaaaay too many. When a Street Stock class rule book is 3, 4 or 5 pages, we have a problem. You can fit the rules of a freaking 410 Sprint or Dirt Super Late Model in one page. Just think about that…
People go ‘‘Saturday Night Racing’’ for personal entertainment, their weekly FUN. If you fill it with the same or more rules they have to cope with all week long in their regular every day life, they will quit soon and move on to something else, where they can have fun with less hassles.
I’m not saying it should be left open to free for all, but look around at what works,
Andre, I could not agree with you more. This stuff ain’t for the Sprint Cup.
Good post by Rusty.
As Rusty pointed out the rule is there and to be followed.
Sounds like an honest mistake and they took the DQ with class and dignity. I bet these guys will get everything right and be back to race again.
I want to know how when jason and i got caught with an illegal motor we had to take our motor out and have it took apart surrender the illegal parts since we was told Jason was suspended from fascar til we did yet Rusty yall didnt have to take your motor out an be checked before you could race again then they let yall win the last nite without a chip in your crate car which you was suppose to be following your rules since yall was 2700 an 57 left compared to the rest of the class and in tech they said its the last nite they wasnt doing nothing about not having a chip in the msd so why didnt they tell the trucks the same thing its the last nite how does the rules only apply to a select few since obviously the truck didnt have to surrender their motors either

I think that Tiresmok has a great point that needs to be answered or at least addressed. ?Had Ricky checked hard the first two nights, would there be any trucks last night??
The answer is NO!! there would not have been enough trucks to put on a show. But that isn?t why Ricky didn?t tech the trucks the first or second night, the reason is simple if the track would have done there job the first night they would have lost thousands of dollars. How you ask? Let?s do the math. Seventeen trucks started the race Saturday night, the same on Friday night and fourteen on Thursday, that?s an average of sixteen truck teams each night. I think that is more than fair to assume that each team brings in at least five paying people into the pits each night at $35.00 each that?s $2800.00 per night times three nights for a total of $8400.00 Now each team most likely bought four tires, I?m sure most bought more and a few didn?t buy any but the average of four per team is more than fair. The cost per tire is around $ 110.00 times four, times 16 teams for a total of $7040.00 dollars. Now let?s talk about fuel, each team had to use at least 20 gallons of fuel for the three nights and that is probably a low number but you get the point. I?m not sure what the price per gallon is now but the last time I bought fuel it was around eight dollars a gallon so that?s $160.00 per team time?s sixteen teams for a total of $2560.00 dollars. We can?t forget about concessions, as estimated before each team brings in about five people per night times sixteen teams that?s eighty people, if they spend seven dollars each at the concession stand that?s $560.00 per night times three nights for a total of $1680.00 dollars. Now do you understand why Fascar didn?t make Ricky tech the trucks on the first night? I?m sure the track will try and spin this to there advantage but if you look at this objectively there is only one conclusion and that?s $$$$.
Good point, was it because he was there tapping on Rickys shoulder pointing out things wrong with cars that finished in front of him that he has worked on? Its been known to happen in the past.
Heres my question to you, how jacked up was your motor? Was it a simple fix like Rustys?
Getting busted in tech in my opinion is one of two things.
-
Blatant cheating which is nothing more than stealing prize money and racing recognition from others.
-
Inability to read and understand the rules. That’s a nice way to make my point.
the cam was .10 big an intake had been worked on wasnt our motor was a borrowed motor but as soon as they said we was illegal we had to show the rest of it yes they fixed thiers with washers but that means the heads was cut to much so in that case the heads was illegal or pistons an they checked nothing else of thiers ours sat in the tech room til Dave picked it up to make it right .
They need to be sealed by someone that isnt the builder for that team. Cant believe it would be all that hard for everyone to have their own distinct seals. Hear at one time only one builder could seal them, what if he built it? Not saying its true, just what i heard.
