I sure would like to hear from anyone there about who is there, who is fast, etc. Thanks in advance.
“FUPS”? Is that the best name they could figure out? If you are stuck with something so unmarketable, why not shorten it to something more awsome like the “F.U. Series”?
I’m actually going to the race tonite…
I’ll be there Joe, so I’ll get on here later and let ya know who won, who punched who, who protested who, who Big John pissed on or off, but my race reporting skills will never be on a par with our good friend from across the pond, Andy.
I haven’t been to any races in a while so I’m jones’n’ a little…
Get it?..jones’n’? …Osmosis Jones?..get it?..aww shaddup, Rex.
Damn, Os, you and I must have a beer sometime!
Campi got by the 36 on a late restart.
Anthony Campi wins Icebreaker 100
Anthony Campi got by Tim Russell with around 5 or less to go. Russell was killer on restarts all night but the last one he said he spun the tires and Campi drove him hard to get around. Scofield was in Dick Andersons 92 (the first Icebreaker winner back in 1980) led early finished third. 25 cars started. Steve Dorer had a scary fire in the infield but escaped unharmed. Great crowd good car count all in all a good night at the races.
Thanks Rick!
Local favorite Jessie Dutilly was fast qualifier.
It was a pretty good race and I can’t remember when I have seen two passes for the lead on the outside there! Tim Russell passed Scofield on the outside early in the race then Anthony Campi passed Scofield on the outside as well. Tim was hooked up all night but did not get a good restart and Campi held his own on the outside and made a good pass to win the race. The Steve Dorer incident was very scary he didn’t hit anything he just was pulling down in the infield and all of a sudden the car burst into flames. He was able to get out pretty quickly and was okay thank the dear lord. Not sure what happened to cause it as there was no damage to the car.
The night was pretty good but my one criticism is that when there is a red flag get the lineup set while they are cleaning it up. You can safely do that at the opposite end of the track… Don’t wait until they get it cleaned up then run 4 caution laps while trying to set the lineup. I think the races were over around midnight. Way too long…
The Late Model race ended between 10:30-10:45. I had to go, so didn’t see the rest of the races, but didn’t seem like there were 2, possibly 3 short races afterwards? It was a reasonable time IMO, especially after all the cautions.
I left maybe 5 mins after the last race and got home in St Pete at 12:40 so it didn’t get over until near midnight man. They were not short races then add in the driver interviews after…ugh
BTW I just seen Wayne Jefferson was DQ’d from the Open wheel mod race I was just wondering why?
I would also like to give a shout out to a young man making his first start in a late model, Jake Perkins out of Ocala. He drove his #59 machine from his 19th starting spot all the way to an 8th place finish in a crate car. Not too bad for a 14 year old kid. Special thanks to Jimmy Cope from Jimmy Cope Race Cars and also to Edward Howell for the awesome job on the spotters stand guiding and coaching this young man to a terriffic afternoon.

All the races were very good last night. Jake Perkins did a hell of a job last night. Kept his nose clean and tapped his roof when the 5 turned him after Jake had already gotten loose. Can’t wait to watch that kid in the future!
Big Block. Sounds like you guys had a good day. Dustin told me you guys got a late model. You know you need to keep Ed in the spotters tower and out of the tool box. Just kiddin Ed. You know you guys are going to have to put a “P” after that #59. LOL Good to see you at the track lately and over here on karnac.
We raced at “The King of the Outlaws” race last weekend. It was a great event. Got is see a bunch of you old racing family. Didn’t see you there.
I haven’t been to a kart track in about 2 years or more. We are going to try to put together a deal to run that 25k race at Jasper later on this year. Yeah, Jake did a great job last night. Spun once after a little contact when he got loose and then again after some more unintentional contact but made his way back to the top 10. I’ll bet he passed 20 or more last night. Looking forward to seeing you guys, hopefully at a LM track!

BigBlock I was wondering why he didn’t contest the spot after getting spun. I was watching that as it happened and I saw Boyd get into him slightly and then try to lay off but got him again. I think he should have gone right back up to his spot he might have had a better chance of keeping it had he put up a fight for it.
DeMan, Jake came on the radio and more or less accpeted responsibility for the spin. He got really loose and Boyd justy barely tapped him. No worries tho. I’m not so sure it was an all bad thing. Our main goal was to gain valueable experience, and we did that. Having to come from the back on two occations and still get into the top 10 was very impressive. Considering his age and the fact that this was his first ever start in a LM make it all but phenominal. That young man has a bright future in front of him and had been blessed with something most young racers at his level have at this stage: the ability to be very humble, take everything in stride and be very appreciative of where he is and what it took to get him there. He really is a remarkable young man and I am honored to have worked with he and his family over the last 4 years.

A late report is…
well…a late report.
Rick A. and Deman already gave out all the important details from last night. Everyone (at least in the LM’s) made it through tech, I didn’t see any beat downs going on anywhere (but I did get there a little late) and I never even saw John all night so I got nothin’ to report on that front either…
BUT…
Congrats to my old buddy Mario, his dad (Big Mario) and his mom (Dottie) and especially to Anthony Campi who put on a driving clinic in clean outside passing for the win last night. Great move on Russell on the restart (I never saw his wheels spin, it just looked to me like he was sleepin’ a little…but hey, I wasn’t sittin’ in there next to him, either) and also going around Scofield on the outside like an old pro. Actually a bunch of good clean racing in the front of the field last night. The back was another story but what are ya gonna do. Don’t know who was in the 19 car but he needs to figure out where the end of his hood is…he could have been about a second quicker most laps if he hadn’t run into the back of…well…just about every car he got behind. Heard some people say the 88 would mess up the initial start and dang if they weren’t right. Don’t know what he was thinkin’ but it wasn’t about that green flag.
Jesse Dutilly. This guy is one of the smoothest, cleanest, smartest and UNDER RECOGNIZED drivers out there. Set fast time and the only thing keeping him from a certain top three was a front brake problem. Watch for him this year in this series. You read it here first, race fans.
Saw a bunch of old friends in the pits and even though it was 30 bucks to get in, I had a good time. Left thinking about how much fun it would be to build and race a modified. Seems like almost every track is running them still and it’s one class I’ve never driven in. Wonder what a chassis from Jimmy costs?..
OJ can u c
Yah Big Block, it has been two years for us also. We already put together a deal for the 25k race so he needs to get back in a dirt kart every chance he gets. He still runs road coarse karts at PBIR almost every week. He has been at the Florida Winter Tour series at PBIR since Thursday. He left for Tallahassee at 7:00pm and we will meet him at the track on Friday. Maybe we will see you there.
