Great Night at Punta Gorda Speedway

Mickey Kempgens wins 17 car Sprint race and Sean McLaughlin won the 50 lap Open Wheel Modified race in front of a packed crowd. Was a great night for all.

Man what a night of racing. Full Pits, Full stands and some edge of the seat racing. The Sprint cars were the show tonight. 17 strong and they put on a whale of a show. Micky Kempkens walked the dog for the most part. The OWM put on a show too with the #99 leading from flag to flag. A race fan couldn’t ask for a better night of racing and the last checkered flag dropped at 10:20. Good Job to Kevin and his staff. Bob…

It is really good to see the grandstands packed like that! Hopefully that is a trend we will see at all the Florida tracks.

i bet if there had of been more open wheel

cars there it would have been a really good show it’s good for racer only having to race nine cars you needed about ten more :huepfen024::huepfen024:

big hit

Now thats what i call a croud… way to go and try to keep it up. Nothing feels better to a track offical than working in frount of a big croud!! The winner likes it even better. Good job PG…

Welcome back Steve!!! it was exciting…
Robert… your pictures came out GREAT… thanks. nice and clear. good shots…

you did it again . did not notice the crowed was working on the truck up till the race but when I went to visit the wife in the stands .WOW great job PGS YOU GUYS ROCK thanks . keep up the good work

Very good crowd!
What is PGS doing to put folks in the seats?

$10.oo to get in and great prices on good food

They added a number of new things to the menu this year too. I heard a couple of folks talking about it at the track on Saturday.

Another thing that may be helping is that they are pushing the program to get over earlier. Anytime you can be completely done by 10’ish, it’s great for the seniors, and for the families. I saw a lot of both in the grandstands this weekend.

Also, no fighting or bickering at all in the pits, that I saw on Saturday. I think Greg and the new owners have finally gotten the old element that was always creating drama at the track, in line.

Good job PGS! I’ve lived in SW Florida since before the track was built, and it’s great to see the support for the track growing.

Good thing bad thing…

Good thing to see you guys had a good turn out of race fans.
Bad thing to see the catch fence has’nt been upgraded.
I know it’s a money issue but, weigh the cost of a good catch fence as opposed to the cost of a bunch of law suits. And don’t think just because it has never happened that it wont happen.

Safety first, racing second…

Danny,

your looking at one part of a photo, you should see the “fence bill”. Kevin “has” put up new posts and some new fencing around the track.
also had to fence off a ton of areas for the parking because of the road. WOW, you should of heard from mike how nice the place looked, but i know when your involved with another track you cant see past the green eyed monster.
sorry, it is just a shame that people who do not come out and see for them self have the most complaints??? what a shame.

Must give a special THANK YOU to Kevin , Greg and the rest of the PGS Staff…Great job a packed house “AGAIN” sorry that we were one of the Sprint cars that broke Friday night and was unable to race !! I hope we get another chance to come down to PGS with Carreno and company. Thanks for giving us ( sprint car owners and drivers ) a race, hopefully there will be more !!!

Thank You Lou Cabre #12

we thank you…

race tracks are useless without racers… thru the early days we have seen racers do their thing on sand, water, you name it. when a person wants to race they will find a way… without you guys we would fold… so thank you to all the racers who came to PGS… the owners and staff have worked very hard to give you a wonderful place to do what you love to do… i know they want you to feel welcomed. as a fan… well we love you guys! thats why we go to the tracks every week…i hope next time you come you will have much better luck…

Did’nt mean for it to…

sound like a complaint. The only thing I’ve ever complained about when it comes to Charlotte is when the curfew catches up to the racing still in progress.
Yes I’m guilty of not seeing what has been done there lately being involved with another track but you got to admit, the reconstruction of the catch fence is loooooong over due.
As far as the green eyed monster goes, it’s always stairing at everyone all the time. The amount of a “fence bill” ain’t nothing when it come to the safety of a race fan or a race car driver.
Not a complaint, just my humble opinion; The last three or times I’ve been there I always told other people how good and clean the place is. But new paint here and there and pretty flower beds and good clean rest rooms don’t mean diddly when it comes to the safety of everyone who attends.
Lke I said; Safety first, racing second.

Wow! First of all i would like to thank every fan and every racer in all of the classes that participated saturday night… i believe that they had 9 classes, for coming out and supporting PGS open wheel madness night! To the WHOLE entire PGS team, thanks for having US! I got to tell you something though, in my years of racing ive never had the privilege of racing in front of that many fans before, to sit there in your car lined up waiting to get it on, and look up in awh it kinda makes the hair stand up on your neck. Hey mr abney how have you been? i saw your son at E.B. he looked good! Your right more mods would have been great but the ones that were there wasnt no slouches. it was our first race for the IPSCA and we found out something since our first race at citrus was rained out, we now know that there are 9 more sprinters in the state of florida that just want to race. our total was 20 cars we started 16, 4 cars broke and DNS. But from what i saw those 16 drivers put on a hell of a SHOW! i would like to thank the teams that came down friday on there own dollar, to help promote their cause! i honestly think we were able to find some new race fans! what do yall think? did the sprints give yall a good show? if they did LET PGS KNOW, cause we would sure love to go back!

T.Carreno

when ya come back…

drag that old fart with ya! (Nerone)… it was a great night Tony and i see many more to come. Good luck.
