Those numbers are pure bullsh1t with regard to an annual pension number.
However…on their topic of high speed rail, I do agree that it is useless without decent mass transit on either end of it which neither city has. Not to mention ridership numbers are sketchy at best. So, I do agree with that alien looking criminal on this one.
he is an alien looking criminal ill give you that …alex sink is an evil lookin bitch …lesser of the two evils ,just like the last presidintal elections
Rick Scott doesn’t give a rats ass about education or public service in the state. He is concerned about making money for his friends in business (and that ain’t you or me). He got elected by the buzz word/sound byte crowd and now we all will pay.
He is destroying one of the basic tenets of our society - public education. Without it 99% of you could not even read this post. My wife is a non union teacher with accolades and awards to warrant that she would do well under some merit pay plan…however there are several segments of students who nobody will want to teach anymore because they don’t show large gains - special ed and gifted children. The list goes on about what is wrong with the slash and burn mentality, but nobody in Tallahassee is interested in fixing it, just cutting budget.
We are fortunate in that we don’t to rely on my wife’s income and she does it because she loves it. Most teachers are not in that situation and cant afford cuts to any of the “benefits” they have now.
Similar efforts are affecting police/fire/emt you name…this guy is destroying - not fixing things.
Yes we of our generation can read. BUT not thoses kids that are coming out of school NOW! I saw figures out last week that 82% the kids now adays can’t read at an 8th grade level when they get out of school. Teacher and others CAN afford to pay a % into their retirement. I know I had to do it at my job. And they raised the % twice when I was working. I was glad to do it. I knew that by doing it I was making sure my retirement check would always be there!!!. Paying 5% into their retirement is a he$$ of as lot better then getting np pay check. There are less and less of US out here pay for her and all fire and police pay checks. And a lot of us out here that still work haven’t had a pay raise in years! Thoses you are talking about can’t say that.
I had to pay into the Massachusetts Teachers Retirement System towards my retirement pension. I was shocked to see that Florida teachers don’t have to do likewise. Any state employee, for that matter, should have to pay into a fund for their retirement. No free retirement income at taxpayer expense. You wonder why this state is in a financial crisis, well this is one of the biggest factors.
But the teachers make a lot more up there then they do here man.
As a teacher in Massachusetts, consider this: the state boasts the third highest average teacher salaries in the nation?$68,000 in 2009-2010?according to the National Education Association.
The average salary paid to a Florida public school teacher in the 2009-10 school year was $46,696.

Wish I made that much, and what is it 3-4 weeks off for christmas, thanksgiving, and half the summer, I don’t think its all that bad.

951, what you and others like you forget, not know or don’t care to share. And is that state has some of the highest tax rates in the country. Plus I also think it has a state income tax. WHICH WE DON’T! Like I said in an earlier post why don’t they want to help ensure that their retirement IS there by putting in part of the money. And if we don’t have the teachers start helping out with THEIR retirements, how will we pay for it. Yep right MORE NEW TAXES!!! So their going to pay it one way or another!:ernaehrung004::huepfen024::huepfen024:
Teachers are not the enemy guys. What you are doing by supporting the pension changes is taking money out of their pockets. They have been without raises for many years which they accepted.
They should have held out for the raises and paid some into the pension system because they would be better off today.
If you want them to contribute to their pension, give them an equal raise.
Before you blast me, anyone in the good old USA had the same opportunity to become a teacher. Many quality people took different careers due to the low pay teachers are paid.
Would any of you be so supportive of making them take a pay cut ? They are already underpaid !
You can still be a teacher. You can start by teaching Don N basic spelling and math. His economics course will have to wait until he is potty trained. I hear he is so full of shit that he still wears pull-ups. Ok, at his age they call them depends. :huepfen024:
ever heard of the teachers union and i dint mean just teachers i meant all labor unions …if u dont like working for a polition work in the private sector then see how hard u get screwed by the politions and the unions
I’ve worked for a business owner, been a business owner, served in the military, been in a union, and worked as a public employee. One thing for sure, politicians and business owners will do as little as possible for the worker. Unions are the result of the rich business owners screwing the worker. Public unions are the result of politicians screwing the worker.
i must be a conspirasist if u look a large campain contributions to politions mainly democrats youll find large amounts comming from public unions that is y people are pissed about scott dumping this rail i bet 2billion dollars a union was going to get real fat i could give many more exaples there isnt a foram long enough and i just dont have the time
I’m glad that train got squashed. I never thought it would be able to support itself financially. Burden on taxpayers in the long run.
Unions support democrats because they normally do what is best for the worker.
I was a republican because of my beliefs in working for a living without handouts. Now I am disgusted with the republicans for attacking the workers pensions with lies to the public and the democrats spending boatloads of money make me just as disgusted.
I would like to see a whole new political party. One that does what is right for the workers, yet supports business owners. There should be a balance, but only a tug of war these days.
kick them ALL out next election and start with a new fresh unpolluted government who care about the integrity of this country and get us back to a moral decent land of “by the people, for the people, and with the people” not "TO the people… know what i mean? we need change… REAL change… not the “change” we got last time… how about Depublicans!

I agree Carol. Last election I hardly looked at the party or name of who was running. I looked for the word “incumbant” and voted for the other guy. MAYBE, just MAYBE with all newbies in office they’ll thin k about their constituants instead of the lobbyists. The only incumbant bI voted for was John Mica, and I’m not so sure about him either.
