Brian Dreyer sent these to me after he and some other guys from up in Charlotte toured the ISC Archives in Daytona Beach yesterday… I get to work in this place that is not a museum but an actual archive of items and memorabilia either owned or donated to ISC and the France family. It’s primary purpose is for support of NASCAR and ISC-owned tracks and as a research facility for persons doing books, magazine articles, TV documentaries etc. We also sell photographs to the general public for a fee providing we have what they are looking for (which we usually do)…
The Archives is not open to the General Public but tours are available to both current and former drivers including their teams & families, NASCAR sponsors, officials etc. and others involved in race promotion etc.
The trophies you see are part of a collection primarily donated by current and former NASCAR tracks and drivers’ families… we have quite a few that have been donated by Darlington and Martinsville and a lot of Joe Weatherly’s trophies… The oldest trophy we have on display is from 1903…
We have over 3.5 million images on file, programs, magazines, books etc. and a few cars on display in our garage including the 1967 Pontiac Firebird Daytona 500 pace car that has been autographed by many drivers and celebrities over the years… The gray bench you see in the photos is one of the original work benches from the DIS garage area that was rescued just before the old garages were imploded a few years ago…
Hey, that looks like my house!
That is a pretty neat office you have there Dave.
Is there a site that can be accessed to review photo images for possible purchase? I was able to review several photos on the Indy Museum web site prior to selecting and purchasing.
THAT is where the NASCAR “Hall of Fame” shoulda went.
Shoulda? What’s that?
dave,i sent a email to ya.
That’s very cool. I actually worked on those work benches at my first race there in 1982.
