The thought of Race tracks closing sucks. But, for the guy who has been doing it right he will benefit. Hickory motor speedway only had 1 nearby track that run on Friday night. It has already closed for the season due to lack of participation (fans and drivers). Some cars ran both tracks and some exclusively Friday night. Now Hickory has all of the cars and what fans were left.
Many tracks are closed in SC also. Last night Lancaster speedway in Lancaster SC had 113 cars in 6 classes (33 SLM) and the stands were full.
PGS in south Fla, location location location…keep up the fair treatment to fans and drivers and they will continue to prosper.
Citrus…i’d drive 150 miles every week to be there.
NSS could have a chance due to location, not sure what to change.
OSW i think is a victim of what is now a bad location. The mass population of Orlando now are NOT racers or fans unfortunately. in the 80’s if i didn’t get there early i could hardly find a place to park…front or back.
Many tracks are doing OK, but this morning i went and got gas for my lawn mower @ 3.89 per gallon.
That in itself is going to bite hard real soon.
Just to throw it out there, i know of a track that is letting all their classes run E-85 gas and making track fuel optional to keep cost down.
Bowman Grey Stadium was PACKED last night! (my neighbor went).
I think it boils down to who you are, how you do it, and where you are at that will survive not just the economy now but in the future also.
I know of a class up here that averages 18-25 cars and the winner gets $250 and only pays through top 10. And has a full field every weekend at multiple tracks. The cost of the car is around $6,500 to 8,000 depending on how fast you want to go.
So, in some instances i know PAYOUT is NOT what is keeping racers away. If they want to race…they will.
