This is one my favorite weeks of the NASCAR Season!!!!

:huepfen024::huepfen024::auto003::auto003:
This weekend is the first road races for NASCAR. I have raced at both of the tracks and let me tell you it’s two of the Greatest Road Race Tracks in the country. The Canada Corner it breath taking at Road America and the evaluation changes at Sears Point (oh I mean Infineon) are second to only Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca. I know I am going to Auburndale to promote the Educational Racing Summer Camp, BUT I sure will have on my DVR are set for Road America on Saturday.
Questions???

  1. Who do you think going to win one or both races???
  2. Any one heard which of the Cup Stars are going to Road America?
  3. Wonder if any of the other Hired Guns are coming?
    :ernaehrung004:

I have to agree Bobby, I think road racing is the best. Circle track is ok but turning both ways requires a lot more set up. I just think its a lot more interesting. I wish they raced more road courses, and a dirt race or two would be good too!!

Wow! You raced there? How did you do? Were you famous?

gooooooo! The sticky stuff. :slight_smile:

No not famous.

No I was not one of the most successful drivers. But just loved the sport so much. A has been or want-to-be now. But still love the sport. Here are some of the tracks I have raced at. Bobby, didn’t you race an IMSA Corvette with Teddy Kempgens at Daytona
in the 70’s?

I saw Teddy’s Son Mickey run a Camaro on the Daytona road course with HSR a few years ago. I think Mickey’s first time on a road course and he was VERY quick.

The past has a lot of GREAT FRIENDS in it!!!

Yes, and Mickey is one heck of a Racer in anything he drives. He just WON Citrus in a Sprint Car. A funny story about Teddy and myself. Was he was in my wedding 33 years ago. I was getting my Teaching degree at Tampa U and between his Dads Gulf Station (that was a gasoline company in the old days) we built a Corvette to race at Sebring 1974 I think. And Buzzy Reutimann was to be our Co Driver. There was a small mistake with the motor shop and we had 14 to 1 compression. We never made the race, but we still had a great time. Also race with Timmy Chitwood, Joe Varde, Joe Laguet, Roy Newsome and a host of others. GREAT times!!!

Freedom of speech.

Who might you mean? Freedom Speech is our Constitutional Right. Along with the right not to click on a post. That’s the computer operators right. I left off other Drivers names, Dale Krieder, Doug Kenny, Pablo Ramose, Teddy and others. Great memory’s!!! Any way hope to see you at Auburndale Speedway on Saturday!!!

Bobby

Please do not take what i posted as anything directed towards you. I just got a kick out of all the racing that you have done and that you probably put the gentlemen who posted a comment in this thread in his place. I got a laugh. By the way you no me…D Miller

You know me Doug.

I knew you meant my new fan. Your right it’s FUN!!! Good luck where ever your racing. You are a true CHAMPION. And FAMOUS in my book!!! Now back to the races (DVR of course)!!!

No, not put in any place…
I just love it when guys blow their own horn about what they used to do 30 years ago.

Oh yeah!!!

I hate getting old. I also raced at Orlando MX Track, Tampa Scrambles, Fruit land Park, Leesburg, Sarasota (Murphy’s Corner was a bear), Talladega Short Track (across the street from the BIG track), Phoenix City Flat Track, Shae Stadium Daytona (AMA Pro, Daytona (AMA Pro, WKA), Dade City Flat Track and Road Course, St Pete Grand Prix Road Course (Tri City), Desoto Drag Strip, and St. Pete Drag Strip. Heck I know theres’s got to be more. Maybe I’ll get out the old picture book. Some are in black and white. Or I’ll ask Teddy his memory is better (you know he’s younger). ANYWAY GOooooo NASCAR GOoooo…
:huepfen024::auto003::auto003::aktion033:

Not blowing my horn. You left yourself WIDE OPEN. But, thanks you made my day.:huepfen024::huepfen024::sport009::sport009:

A lot of people did a lot of things 30 yrs ago that they have a right to be proud of them. I personally thinks its disrespectful to imply somethimg done 30 yrs ago somehow is nothing to be proud of. My father and maybe yours fought and suffered for this country many yrs ago. Bad as I am, I totally respect LOTS of things people did 30 yrs ago. I have a friend 70+ yrs ago that was very famous as a car owner, and take Bugsy Stevens, 3 time NASCAR Northern Mod driver from yrs ago, I LOVE to hear them talk. Just saying Legend I’m sure you didnt mean anything bad

Bobby is famous in my book ! Anybody that has raced at any level at that many tracks deserves the respect of anyone that has racing in their blood.

Goooooo Bobby !

Those examples are honorable and that’s not what happened here. We all have great memories I am sure. You just don’t find too many famous racers or athletes that shout out (bold/highlights) “hey, I used to do that too!” You leave that to writers, fans, friends and other folks to do that for you. We all can name drop…

Oh, BTW, gooooo :slight_smile:

A couple more.

Also add the two Lake City’s the asphalt was Fastruck, add the dirt was Flat Track AMA and Go Karts, Seffner was a neat little road course, oh yeah Bronson in FASTRUCK and PARTS Pro Trucks. There was the Plant Field on the Hillsborough River AMA Pro Flat Track, and the Tampa Fairs for the World Challenge the only two years it ran 1987 & 88 (now that place was perfect). I know I leaving a few out. Oh well they all hold special memory in my heart (some in my tail bone),. Yeah When they say “How BAD DO YOU GOT IT”? I got it bad.
:huepfen024::huepfen024::huepfen024::slight_smile:

Well when you are a retired racecar driver and have a honorable and long exciting history in the sport we will remind you to not brag and shut up :).

Bobby thats an awesome sounding history in the sport! I wish I could race!!!

I did just that…

Oh Bobby…

Legend…

I took it more as he was remembering good times more than bragging. Heck we all do that.
