Local racing against the Coke 400...

Why is it just about every track in the state is scared to go up against the 400??Is it that they are afraid they wouldn’t get the fans?Every racer I have talked to over the years say they could care less about the Daytona race.Throw up a big money race for a few classes and they would come.I know a track that did it locally a few years ago and had over 90 cars in the pits.Whats your take??:question::question:

I think a lot of them do it so the racers can spend time with there famlies and do not have to choose a family outing or going to the track. I think it is a good idea a lot of the tracks are off next weekend.

It gives everyone a break . It kinda is like a mid season break.:sprachlos020:

you can have 90 cars in the pits. However, no one in the grandstands. I checked Sharon Speedway’s website in Ohio, they are not racing. Its not just the tracks in Florida.

4th of July weekend use to be one of my favorite racing weekends. Use to go to Fonda on Saturdays with the kids and watch races and see a fireworks display after. On Mondays, Syracuse use to have a $20 carload night and fireworks display after. One year a driver was killed at Syracuse and they had the fireworks while taking care of that. I could hear what was happening over the scanner. Kind of turned my off on that show.
That said, I believe those races didn’t compete with a Saturday night Nascar race. I still think it would be a great weekend for a special show though.

When we raced karts there were any one of a number of big money races peppered all over the south-east on 4th of July weekend. I think Darren hit the nail on the head with the fan support. We didn’t worry much about fans because karting didn’t really draw much of a crowd as far as spectators, but you could find full pit areas basically anywhere you went. Kart promoters don’t figure in “front gate” money when they put on a show, only entries and pit passes.

At a track that I worked at before we went up against Daytona…HUGE mistake!!! You can say all you want about the drivers wanting to race, but when the rubber hits the road the numbers are WAY WAY off! There are always a few that say they want to race…but business wise it is a very bad deal…New Smyrna is running Thursday with the Clyde Hart Memorial…they also know from years of experince that you just do not go up against a GIANT!

I AGREE!!!

wow! racing thursday night at nss should be a big crowed…consider the 400 race is saturday alot of people in town…hope the track did everything possible to get people to come
