fascar sportsman

fascar sportsman cars have seen more rule changes in the last few years than any other track and i believe it is really hurting the car counts. I think we need to find ways to bring out all the older cars and make it where they can compete with the cars under the new rules. instead of of giving weight penalties to outsiders so we have to hear them complain about being heavy how bout weight breaks/Left side for full frames, stock 4links, stock positioned leafsprings, stock firewalls and floorpans ect. im afraid if we dont put up some cars we might be the first group on the chopping block so lets bring them out i know there are many cars out there just sitting race ready. Hopefully they will start communicating with the drivers more on rule changes instead of the race shops.

One of the reasons the Southern Sportsman Series WAS such a good thing, is that the rulebooks were fairly ‘loose’. They didn t need to look the same, be built the same, or have crazy amounts of dollars under the hood. It was truly a throwback to the times when someones thoughts and ingenuity could be put into play. Not just going to the Speed Shop and buying whatever is this weeks fad.

Find a way to keep expenses somewhat under control, and at the same time encourage ingenuity. There are still people out there that like to ‘tinker’ around with their own thoughts and efforts. They don’t want to just go BUY what everyone else has.

The Sportsman class, the way it’s so splintered in Fla, has great possibilities to turn into something different, competitive, interesting… and isn’t that what a lot of people have been asking for, for a long time. Cookie cutter classes get boring.

you are right,OSW & NSS

you are so right about FASCAR…if you dont want to run by only their rules, then they will tell you that they don’t need you,I dont think anyone from FASCAR watches any of the showes other then the L/M’s in whatever form they may be in that nite. I think they say thats the show, the rest are just fill in’s. The Sportsman cars could be a showstopper with a little help…but who cares? NOT FASCAR THATS FOR SURE

your right

Hay mike your right check out the sportsman rules at starspeedway .com we have 36 signed up 20 made the first practice we are gonna have some fun!!!

Well this ain’t New Hampshire and “Stah” Speedway is 1500 miles away. They tried those rules at DeSoto (due to your influence) and it drew a whopping 8 car field (six cars minus your 2). The prospect of taking a ton of weight off your car, rescaling it and beefing up your motor to race at just one track didn’t appeal to anyone. Promoters need to get together like they did this winter and try to set up ONE set of rules. They were almost there but went in different directions when they walked away from the table. The failed Sportsman Challenge Series meetings generated a set of common rules that made EVERY current LEGAL Sportsman at ANY FL (not NH) track legal for the series with some minor weight adjustments. Drivers came up with these rules. Check 'em out at www.sportsmanchallenge.com. Just so everyone knows, I talked to Wayne (Tech Man at Orlando) just before the rained out 50 lapper there and he was very accomodating to cars outside the FASCAR rules by just adding some weight. If you are thinking of running there and are outside of the FASCAR rules just call him and he will tell you where you need to be. He is very easy to talk to and seems very experienced and fair. BTW 22 Sportsman cars for a regular show at Citrus last night. Living proof that the division is alive and well…

Don’t know the rules for Citrus but last night they had 21 Sportsman cars for their race. Mike Bresnahan in the #69 won the feature after a race long challenge from #99 Cody Stickler. #13 Aaron Williamson was third. 25 laps went green to checker.

I believe citrus has cars because of the way they have treated the smaller lower class cars not because of there rules where i think most of the other tracks have focused more on the money classes. The more other tracks conform to citrus’s rules the more i think sportsman type cars will go to where they are treated like a commodity to the race program which at this time seems to be citrus. hopefully tracks notice soon that this economy cant support 3 or 4 big money classes and fans dont care how much the cars cost they just want to see good racing. And while Im glad citrus is doing good I really want to see NSS and Orlando go back to the car counts we used to have because thats were i will always be on the weekends.
I think the desoto race didnt work because unfortunately in florida we have to many sportsman cars who will not race unless they think they have every possible advantage that anyone else might have and they just didn’t know what to expect would show up.For Example I know for a fact there are many fascar sportsman sitting because they dont have the car will the latest rule advantages even though many cars have won this year that would have been legal 5 years ago. some drivers wont show up because when they practiced though the week they didnt run times that some cars may run, when at the end of the day it should be about putting a show on for the fans.

I agree with you 100% Mike about giving some kind of break to the older Sportsman cars. Complete Stock Frame -100lbs and + 1 % LSWT. Non-Aftermarket, non-Vortec Heads -50 lbs., etc. Things like this will get the cars out of mothballs, not Open No Rules races. Then simply adjust up or down with the breaks as the racing dictates. BTW thanks for coming over at Desoto after the race and introducing yourself and explaining how you didn’t condone the BS. That was a class move. Hopefully you can make it to OSW for the 50 Lapper on 6/1 and we can go door to door.
