ANNOUNCEMENT: The race scheduled at Watermelon Capital Speedway for this weekend, June 2, 2012, has been cancelled due to low car turn out.
Also heard from a club member that desoto date may canceled and that one track owner has offered more dates if they cancel dates at another track.
This used to be one of the few series that used to bring fans to the stands but now can’t even get enough cars to run a race?
Actually I heard two other track owners have offered additional dates in 2012, but I’m waiting on the official word just like everyone else.
Its a fact that we pulled the plug on the Georgia race. As usual it was a money and car situation; not enough teams were willing to invest in the time and fuel for the purse offered. Hopefully something will work out there in the near future.
No they can’t…there’s a car count problem even here locally, Desoto car counts: 11, 12, and 17… and because of that, the race in Ga never should have been scheduled and has created another red face to TBARA.
Our car counts this year have been this: 23, 19, 13, 17, 12, 18 and 18. Not outstanding, but most races have had an adequate field.

Sorry, but I disagree. When it became apparent that we would not have a full field, the plug was pulled with the consent of the racers. If we failed to cancel and instead showed up with a small field, then we would have had a problem. However, it was called off with two weeks notice and avoided that situation.

well 1 of you were off buy one car??
13 12 and 17 or 18.
got lots of friends that have sprints ant they arent happy on either side.
Hope they get there stuff together and they get somone to get all the sprints back together like it should be. Try to say im sory and give and take some.
I didn’t go last year, but I understand that those races were the highlight of the TBARA year. Both tracks were packed with fans, and the cars showed up in force. All of the competitors look back on last year very favorably, and I know I’m looking forward to going this time.
I’ve never seen either track, but we are heading to both next month!
Yeah, it looks like I’m karting with the kids that night instead of racing at De Soto. There is no announced schedule change on the TBARA site, but it does reference our next races that are coming up in July.
Boneman has it completely right. If we don’t bring enough cars to Cordele we are the bad guys, but by canceling the show we are still bad guys. I guess it is just the least of two evils. It’s not a matter of wanting or not wanting to go. Every team and driver wants to go to every race. It all boils down to dollars and cents. As a driver and car co-owner, it just costs a lot of money to run a car at this level. For our team to be able to make the expenses work we have to stay close to home. It costs about 500-800 dollars a night to race barring any troubles. With the economy the way it is, sponsors are non-existent, so unless your independently wealthy, it’s all out of pocket. For our team and the others out of the Ft. Myers-Cape Coral area it doesn’t leave a lot of room for travel expenses. That doesn’t even mention the time off of work. Instead of a simple Race on Saturday night, now we have to take multiple days off just to get to the races. To the guys that can go, GOD BLESS, for us and the guys locally here, its just not in the cards. Our team still plans on supporting the club the rest of the season, mostly because the races aren’t to far away, and it’s a great bunch of drivers and friends.

The following information is not first-hand, or even second hand, so take it with a grain of salt.
I heard (and believe) that it was a mutual decision based on the prospect of arriving with less than a full field. Yes, the money being offered was good, and yes, last years edition produced standing-room crowds, good racing and happy fans. Even the competitors considered that weekend to be the high point of the 2011 season.
Speaking only for my little team; I was all gung-ho for the adventure, and was going to make the trip no matter what. I have never seen either track and was looking forward to giving them a go.
I also heard (and also believe) that the door is open at the out-of-state tracks for when we can produce enough traveling racers to make a good solid field.

I think that has been the case forever…but since when is TBARA a “traveling” series??? It has never really been one because most local racers still work for a living and it’s extremely difficult to travel.
From what I saw of the purse before it was removed, factoring in the travel costs, it was nothing special.
