Just saw it announced that Showtime Speedway will be hosting a big 2 day event on Saturday Sept 1st and SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! September 2nd. Show on Saturday starts at 7 p.m. features (tentatively Sprints), Trucks, Mod Mini’s, Street Stocks, Street Stock Figure 8s and Mini Stocks. On Sunday the show starts at 1 p.m. and features Super Late Models, Modifieds, SPORTSMAN, Street Stocks, Street Stock Figure 8s and Kids Mini Stocks. There has been a lot of talk here on KARNAC about Sunday shows and it appears that Robert Yoho has the cojones to put one on the schedule. Whether your a car owner or a fan and you like the concept of a Sunday show here’s your opportunity to prove why your right and all the other promoters/owners are wrong. C’mon people you got Monday off to recuperate so LET’S GO RACIN’. For more details stay tuned to www.showtimespeedway.us
That sounds cool! I’ll be there for Sunday at least, and maybe for both nights. Hopefully all the wise old sages who say that Sunday racing won’t work will attend also, but I advise them to show up early before it sells out.
New Smyrna is running a SLM 100 on Saturday night too, but what can be done? They are very different types of tracks that are 2 1/2 hours apart, so the teams will choose where to go. I hope they both do well.
This is what DISGUSTS me about Florida race tracks. New Smyrna has had the Clyde Hart Memorial scheduled for that weekend since JANUARY. You open a track mid-season with no schedule and then a couple weeks before announce that you are running Super Late Models?
That is lame and classless.
Tracks may be 2 hours apart if not more but why schedule on top of a big race that is in it’s 14th year not to mention is a MEMORIAL race?
Mr Yoho has just guaranteed that I will never support his facility now or in the future with such a classless and juvenile decision to book on top of a race that has been scheduled for 9 months.
All the track owners point fingers at others saying they are the ones that won’t work with them and then pull a move like this. Tracks don’t have to like each other but in Florida they don’t even have any respect for other tracks.
So i ask you, who is not working with who or at the very least, who has NO RESPECT for other tracks?
What can be done BONEMAN? It’s simple, don’t make the decision to book on top of something that has been advertised for 9 months. Seems simple to me anyways.
This is what DISGUSTS me about Florida race tracks
Calm thyself. A little competition in the marketplace is not a bad thing. There are still enough cars to support two races 150 miles apart, and how bad would it be if they have to compete a little to attract cars? Maybe, just maybe, some of the expenses and fees could drop, or the payout edge a bit higher.
I don’t think it is classless or juvenile. Its just racing. And just because a race has “memorial” in the title does not guarantee it a free pass from competition. The fact is, I’ll probably be at NSS for the Clyde Hart race. Its close and I like going there, but then I’m heading west to support a Sunday race on a 3 day weekend.
A little competition in the marketplace is not a bad thing.
well in that case, the governors cup is november 18th. might as well go ahead and schedule your next slm race then.
and i will say this as FACT, if new smyrna pulled the same stunt, under the same circumstances, with the same two races, there would be 20-30 posts on here ripping them apart for it.
Bring back a real Triple Crown weekend. Orlando Friday night, Auburndale Saturday night, and St. Pete on Sunday.
Like Boneman said. There are enough cars to go around. Someone like me now has a choice. But I’d probably go with St. Pete because all the super fast high horsepower cars will more than likely go to N.S.S. Someone like me whose car is down on horsepower can get away with less horsepower at St. Pete. Too bad I’ll be in Mooresville that weekend.
Per Facebook, after talking with management at NSS, Yoho has decided to only run Super Late Models on Sunday. He was not aware of the Hart Memorial on Saturday night. They are working together in that NSS will run the Supers first on Saturday in order to accomodate teams that may want to run both events. In place of the Supers on Saturday night, Yoho is considering running Sprints instead. Nice to see the tracks working together for the benefit of the racers. Can’t wait to see the Boneman have a full night of preparation now that he has his problems worked out. Go get 'em Rex! (note: Yoho is CONSIDERING running the Sprints, nothing set in stone yet). www.showtimespeedway.us
Scott:
Robert Hart and Robert Yoho spoke late this afternoon and Mr Hart wanted me to thank you for posting this.
Kim
Bring the sun block! Sunday afternoon show will be an absolute scorcher! Firecracker 400 days all over except running it in the middle of the day!
That Tricky Yoho!
O.K., so NOW it appears that Super Late Models are off the card altogether for the big Labor Day Weekend event at Showtime. Sprints are confirmed (as of right now 7:15 Friday 8/17, LOL!) to run BOTH days. Better load up on energy drink Boneman! Personally, I think it’s a great move. To expect Super guys to run the Hart Memorial on Saturday night for 100 laps then haul all the way to St. Pete for a Sunday show, not to mention the Citrus regulars going at it on that Saturday night also, is a bit much to ask. I applaud Robert for doing the right thing as car counts would have suffered at all 3 tracks. Can’t expect those expensive to run machines to be everywhere in the same weekend. Proof positive that Robert has the racers in mind. Gotta give him credit because his heart was in the right place for a big holiday show featuring the Late Models. How 'bout a big Turkey Derby-type weekend instead in Nov. for the Supers (and everyone else)? We’re all home and fat and happy so why not? I can see it now, Cajun Deep Fried Turkey on the backstretch with spiked Egg Nog! Two weeks after the Governors Cup and the weather would be perfect for a big Sunday show! Anywho, that’s the update and once again, don’t rely on me, go to www.showtimespeedway.us for the latest news. P.S. to Kim from NSS, please relay to Mr. Hart that I am flattered by his thanks. All I try to do is get the word out because I don’t think people realize the power of KARNAC to reach all racers and race fans from coast to coast in the great state of Florida. Shows how even if they are not on here, the word spreads FAST through the racing grapevine. Proud that my simple post avoided a lot of headaches for so many people. Now back to working on my bent up 07 Sportsman so that maybe, maybe I can make the big 50 lapper on 9/22 at Citrus…:ernaehrung004:
Scotty, as of 7:25 pm, this is what I’ve heard. The Sunday show has been moved to evening so it will be cooler (!) AND the sprints will be running wingless on Sunday night! Now that is going to be a fun weekend.
I just talked to one of the sprint guys, and he views it just like I do. We’ll have two very interesting nights, and they will be back to back.
More good news: the TBARA race scheduled for a few days after this has been moved by Punta Gorda Speedway to 9-22. I guess they are having issues with their parking lot and have shifted things around a bit. That gives us time to turn the cars around and make all the shows.
Wow Boneman! I just can’t keep up. No matter what I post, I keep getting caught a lap down. I give up! Gotta say though good move on both parts. Mixing it up going wingless and it’s still too damn hot for a daytime show. No work Monday so what the hell, why not? The show runs tight anyway and I’d be surprised if it went past 10 p.m. (weather permitting). Still hoping for a Turkey weekend show though.
The only problem with getting done early is that we spend even more time standing around visiting, and the dining options are more varied, so we stay there longer too. I still don’t get home until 3 am.
Looking forward to Labor Day weekend! I’ve been lamenting that most tracks do not take advantage of the 3 day weekends, and often close or put on half a show. Not Showtime!
I’m hearin legends at Showtime that weekend also… We’ll see. :huepfen024:
Scott… first off, you are GREAT for this support and effort you keep giving.
Secondly, I love your idea of a Turkey Derby weekend event. Set up a campground area, make it VERY fan friendly to where it’s a happening… not just another race. And make it a big show for several divisions. Thompson Speedway runs a World Series on the same ideas. It goes over very well in both places. NSS has come along lately with their Gov Cup weekend, but it’s still on a growth phase.
I think the Winged/Wing-less idea is also a great idea. There are some racers that will do one, or the other, or BOTH (I KNOW Boneman would be in for both). This way, we will see different fields of cars each night. Not just 2 nights of the same… and the 2nd night is ALWAYS weaker on car count if all else is equal.
I’m seeing some outside-the-box thinking, cooperation between tracks, races on supposedly “off” days (4th of July for one)… and this is the kind of stuff fans have been begging for.
Now, let’s support it…!
From the Showtime Speedway Facebook site…There won’t be any Late Models running on the 2 day labor day show.
The Legends are on the program both Saturday and Sunday.
@Frasson118. Thanks for the kind words. Just doin’ my part as a racer and race fan to try and help. When things go smooth, we all win. Now as far as the Thompson World Series is concerned, aaaaaaah a topic near and dear to my heart. Think I’ve been to it like 15 times, camped about 10 times and raced in it 5 times. I almost won the Outlaw Late Model Race there in 1997 as a rookie. Passed late to finish second. Still was happy as a clam. For those who don’t know it’s a three day event with 15 Divisions of racing featuring a 125 Lap feature for the Whelen Modified Tour and a 50 lap feature for the Super Modifieds on a super fast high banked 5/8 mile. As a local racer it’s like you’re getting to run NASCAR with the size of the track, size of the crowd and the amount of people camping at the track. You cannot imagine the magnitude of this event without experiencing it. Usually draws about 500 race cars! Man could I tell you stories. I think that Showtime could be the only place in the state to have the room for something even close to this. To even be mentioned in the same breath as the World Series it would have to be a 3 day event and include everything that runs on asphalt in the state. Would need features for Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Sprints, Modifieds, Sportsman, E-Modifieds, Legends, Street Stocks, Bombers, Modified Mini Stocks, Mini Stocks, Strictly Stocks, Pro Figure 8s, Street Stock Figure 8s and Trucks. You would have to provide plenty of space for Free Camping and have some kind of Breakfast Buffet in the A.M… Thanksgiving weekend would be absolutely perfect weather and time wise. Practice, Qualifying and Some features on Friday. Practice, Qualifying and some features on Saturday and features only on Sunday. Hope this is more than a pipe dream. Would be really, really cool to see this become a reality. One can only hope. Yoho are you listening? :ernaehrung004:
The Ever Changing Labor Day Weekend Schedule
Latest Update. Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Kids Mini Stocks have been taken off the Sunday portion of the Labor Day Weekend at Showtime and School Bus Figure 8, Pro Figure 8, Mini Stock Figure 8, Legends and Bandalero’s have been added in their place. Only the Sprints and Street Stock Figure 8 remains as scheduled. (No Sportsman on the schedule at Showtime in September).
