How about a Sportsman race on just one night? They haven’t been a part of the World Series for a few years now. I’d bet it would get a lot of support with a 35 or 50 Lapper. I’d like to come over and run it and show my Modified friends from the Northeast that I’m still racing and not dead and buried. LOL. :aetsch013:

Scott… it sounds good on paper to add in the “local”'classes to Speedweeks, but it just never works out. It seems every year, the locals promise to bring out a great field of cars… then they don’t show up.

Also, fans didn’t travel 1000 miles down here to see “support” classes. They get that every week at home. They come here for what they DON’T get at home.

??? Super Stocks, FL Modifieds and Pro Trucks aren’t support classes?

I’m loosing count on how many times Jerry has been wrong this year. :huepfen024:

I think the difference is the open motor modified rules are similar at a lot of tracks. For the trucks they get trucks from Gresham and probably this year a few from Pensacola/Mobile (they just started there). The super stocks have had a very weak turn out the last two years. As for the sportsman, I don’t see a bunch coming from tracks around the southeast being that the rules are so different at every track. Unfortunately like Frasson said it sounds good on paper and you can probably get a lot of hype going but getting 15+ cars to show is probably not realistic. I remember the first year they had the super stock 50 lapper that a bunch of people asked for and I think 5 cars showed up, it was embarassing. I feel like the same would happen with the Sportsman, just my opinion.

The Fla Mods, also on the IMCA rules on the schedule, attract cars and drivers from several different states. On occasion, a few trucks from out of state show up, but the fields are pretty dismal as it is. At least they can bring some “travelers” to these shows. And besides, at MANY tracks up north, the Mods are a headline class, not a support division.

How many Super Stocks are headed down here each February? Zero. The only cars they attract will be locals, and a lousy turnout from them. Same thing would happen if it were Mini Stocks, Sportsman, or Strictly Stocks. No support from out of the area, and very weak turnout from locals.

NSS has tried some other classes in the past, and they always get let down. If locals would have supported, and turned out in good numbers, I’m sure they would have kept them. That doesn’t happen, even though NSS tried…

Its unfortunate but Jerry is right. Every year there has been “support” classes nobody showed up. The only way to get the cars to show for speedweeks is a big payout.

Two wor…OK, one word:

Supermodifieds.

Their seasons in New York (ISMA) and Ohio/Michigan (MSA) are done and don’t start up again until about April - a full two months after the World Series.

Why not try and get these guys down there to put on the “WinterNationals” again at a few tracks around the state for the month of February? St. Pete, Inverness, Punta Gorda, New Smyrna for four weeks…make it worth these guys’ while to travel down and spend a month…

The Supermod guys won’t stay a month. They are all working class guys, and can’t get away from their business’ for that long.

I would LOVE to see them at NSS in February, but these guys don’t race for cheap, and it’s very doubtful that NSS can pay the tab.

I also think they would be absolutely AWESOME at OSW also.

Another cool thing with these cars, is that they often run back-to-back races with some being Winged shows and some without. How bad ass would it be to see them at OSW one night wingless, and the next night at New Smyrna with the wings on…!

I saw these guys run wingless couple of years ago at Sandusky. Absolutely incredible show, I would love to see them race down here. I don’t recall seeing a single stacker in the pits, some were even on open trailers.

Didn’t they run at Volusia once before?

Yes…they were at volusia for speed weeks and it was bad ass!

No one but me and Dan Jones had enough balls to right the check!! not run the mouth.

That’s funny Don… the T-shirt I bought at Volusia, during the Supermodified event, had Dickie Murphy’s picture all over it. Didn’t see one speck of Don Nerone OR Dan Jones.

You may have had something to do with another day, at another track, but your trying to take credit for something that another promoter had done.

Try again…!

Want something different, fast fast fast, try 358 Dirt Mods on pavement.

They run them weekly at Airborne Speedway in NY. They are very fast, and very entertaining to watch. Always a great show. They run on dirt tires on pavement.

Airborne is Dirt Sanction, so talk to Dirt if there is anything you(they) could do. They are there at Volusia with the BB Mods, so why not venture in the 358 and see what it does. Just make sure they are not running the same nights, and I’M sure the top guns will bring the 2 cars, BB and 358. Makes the trip more worthwile moneywise.

About the Supermodifieds in Florida:

They ran for years at the south Florida tracks (Palm Beach, Hialeah, and Hollywood) in the early to mid-'70s (NESMRA shows). In the early '80s, I know they had a couple of shows at Sunshine for the Winternationals (ISMA/TBARA shows). In the early to mid '90s (I wanna say it was really only one or two years - maybe '90-'91, or '94-'95 - can’t really remember which years), they were at Volusia when it was paved (obviously - duh…LOL).

It would be cool to see them back down there, run a couple different tracks/shows, OR also be a part of the World Series (maybe on the night that the Modifieds and Late Models are over running at the “big track”?)…

Bristol winner Wayne Jefferson is at Southern National Motorsports Park in North Caro

Wayne Jefferson and Kevyn Terry are at Southern National Motorsports Park in North Carolina for the Rolling Thunder Modified season finale. Saturday’s race was postponed until today Sunday.

The series has had 4 different winners this season. If Wayne or someone different wins today then they will become part of the ‘royal flush.’ Good luck to everyone in North Carolina.
