Thunder Road Announces $50,000 Bonus To Milk Bowl
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TR?092512-82
Barre, VT ? Thunder Road Officials have announced a fifty thousand ($50,000) dollar bonus to be awarded to any competitor that can win all three segments of the 50th People?s United Bank Milk Bowl on the weekend of September 29th and 30th.
The $50,000 award is an added bonus to posted awards already exceeding $120,000, making the race one of the biggest sporting events in Vermont?s history. In the Milk Bowl?s long history, three drivers have completed the feat of winning all three segments: Larry Demar (1967), Dave Dion (1975), and Robbie Crouch (1986). Others have come dangerously close, and no one more than Williston?s Brian Hoar.
Hoar, who has three Milk Bowl victories in his impressive racing resume, has won the pole starting position and two of the three segments in each previous Milk Bowl win. Now, with $50,000 on the line, extra pressure will be on the 8-time ACT Champion to complete the sweep.
2012 King of the Road Nick Sweet, who put on one of the most dominating Late Model performances in recent memory in Thunder Road?s weekly Late Model division, will also be a favorite for the bonus, along with former Milk Bowl Champion Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., Former Milk Bowl Champion and VT State runner up Brent Dragon, and American Canadian Tour point leader Wayne Helliwell, Jr.
The bonus brings another added element to an event already complete with bands, tent dances, a champion?s dinner, bonfires, fireworks, drill teams, and bagpipes, as well as a newly-added $3,000 to win ?Reserve? Milk Bowl with a $20,000 purse for non-qualifying ACT Late Model teams. Mini Milk Bowls will be run for Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stocks as well.
?We are excited about the possibility of one of our teams running for a bonus of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) to help celebrate the 50th annual Milk Bowl,? said the President of ACT Tom Curley. ?It sure will add some additional pressure on the entire Milk Bowl experience for both teams and fans.?
The 50th People?s United Bank Milk Bowl kicks off all the festivities and the ?Toughest Short Track Race in America? on Saturday, September 29th for qualifying rounds and Sunday, September 30th. Post time for both days is 1pm.
