The Little Track that Could

Is the Bullring of Marion County Speedway coming into it’s own? Well if the #'s are any indications just maybe it is. Sat night the numbers did all added up with a total of 82 cars that took to the red clay surface, 8 more than the counterpart track down the street with the same amount of classes…Is it because of different types of racing…well yes and no…both ran Sprints…wing and non wing…both ran full body cars…both had “SPECIAL RACES” and trick or treating for the kids…so what the hell is it? Why has this little track that could, “IS”, turning the heads of the “BIG DOG” tracks in the state…why do you see someone from other tracks coming in (in which they are allowed in free with credentials) taking pictures of this little facility?

Could it be finally someone is doing something right? Like treating racers with respect and fairness. Maybe because you do not destroy a car when they crash, or you really have to get up on the wheel and “drive” the 1/4 mile bullring. Oh, maybe you don’t have to mortgage the house to come race at $10.00 for a pit pass. But wait there is more…this track LOVES your kids, yes this is a very FAMILY ORIENTED racing facility and want you to bring your kids to come play and be out here to meet and talk with all the racers and their kids.

Bill and Lori Cleary have done a fantastic job with changing the complexion of the once rough, drunken facility it was known as the “Thunderbowl”. You come here you are ALWAYS greeted with a smile and a gracious thank you for coming. But Bill and Lori know that there are still many many improvements (like better grandstands) to be done there at the Bullring and it will happen, just not overnight…You see Bill and Lori are just your average working class of people just like you and me, as Lori is a public school teacher and Bill owns a small construction company (and we all know how bad that business is today) yet they are there for the love of the dirt…No they are not able to payout the gazillion of $$ to the racers but they do try to give the average Joe a place to come race and bring his family without taking food off the table.

So if you want to spend a evening with your family that will not cost you an arm or a leg (yes we also have family packages) come on down to the Bullring and get up and close to the drivers and crews. Let your kid fill the seat and the steering wheel of one the these machines…Grab ya a hotdog, coke or burger and enjoy the great racing that The Bullring of Marion County Speedway has to offer…visit us at www.marioncountyspeedway.com C-Ya @ the Bullring …Wayne Davis

My most important question is… what’s the policy on BEER…?

My policy has always been to love honor and obey.

Beer is not sold on the premises at all but you are (AS A FAN) able to bring it in with you…anyone that is associated with a car is asked to refrain from drinking until racing is over…this policy has worked and NO one has taken advantage of this…if they do the car, driver, it’s crew and anyone associated with that car will be asked to leave for a very long extended stay…so far in 2 1/2 years NO one has had to go on and extended stay!!!

Completely reasonable policy, and very FAN friendly. Me and a cooler will be seeing you soon…!

that wee-little dirt track is no quarter-miler. maybe a 1/6, or 1/5 miler at best.

nice place to go, though.
