New Generation Takes Over at New Smyrna and Brings Back Old Tradition

FASCAR Triple Crown Series to Offer Extra Incentives for SLM Racers

To kick off the 2013 season, Andrew Hart, grandson of New Smyrna Speedway founder Clyde Hart and son of current owners Robert and Jane Hart, has upped the excitement surrounding the new year at the Florida half-mile.

The first focus set forth by Hart is the resurrection of the FASCAR Triple Crown Series at the beginning of the season, featuring three of New Smyrna’s premier events.

Super Late Model racers from around North America looking to flee the northern ice and snow for the milder Florida weather this January and February can find the racing fix they’re looking for during the FASCAR Triple Crown events. The Triple Crown racing action kicks off January 5th with the country’s traditional first race of year, the Red Eye 100. The second race of the year will be the 11th annual Pete Orr Memorial / Orange Blossom 100 on January 19th. And the grand finale of the preseason racing is the 47th Annual World Series of Asphalt, beginning February 15th and ending with the 100-lap World Series of Asphalt Super Late Model Championship on February 23rd.

Those three iconic races will remain the same however their purpose will have additional meaning.

Beginning in 2013, those three preseason races combined will comprise the 2013 FASCAR Triple Crown Series. The Triple Crown, a prestigious title fought hard for in years past that paid $3000 to the winner, this year will pay $5000. This is a winner-take-all points purse. Along with the purse, the winner will be presented the new Triple Crown Trophy which is currently being designed.

“The World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing will always be the championship most sought after in preseason racing, but for the drivers unable to run the entire gauntlet of Speedweeks, this is another Championship opportunity,” said Andrew Hart. “The excitement of combining the Triple Crown Championship with the World Series of Asphalt Championship into one race will lead to an explosive final night of Speedweeks.”

Upon hearing the new Triple Crown plans, Steve McInnus of Progressive Racing Engines immediately offered in $500 per race for the pole award. FASCAR has added a set of tires for the 10th place finisher of each race and more contingencies are on the way.

The Red Eye 100 weekend will kick off January 4th with an open practice from 5pm-9pm followed by a bonfire party in the pits with free camping.

Andrew Hart, a recent graduate of the University of Florida added, “The Red Eye got its name for a reason. You can’t have this race without a party the night before! We welcome every driver, crew member and fan to join us!”

Support classes for the Red Eye weekend will be Modifieds, Mini Stocks, Super Stocks and Strictly Stocks. Pit gates open on Saturday at 12pm with tech open at 2pm and practice starting at 3pm.

Why couldn’t one of the races be at Speedworld? Gives us guys that are down on power a little a shot.

Triple Crown is Back

Nice job Andrew , this is was fl racing needs

Good Luck Andrew!!!

Yep. Gonna throw my comments in here…

This isn’t really a “Triple Crown”; it’s a “three-race point series” over what, two months?

Wanna make a true Florida triple crown?

Friday night, (track TBD), 100-lapper.

Move up the road to St. Pete Saturday for a “renewed” Gulf Coast Classic - 125 laps.

Then Sunday afternoon, New Smyrna, for the Governor’s Cup 200.

Or however you wanna work it (St. Pete Friday, Orlando Saturday, New Smyrna Sunday? I’m thinking travel right across I-4 and 417…)

Think logistics. Think you’ll get very many out-of-state cars/drivers/teams to come down for two months? Make it one weekend.

Everything has to start somewhere. FASCAR is in. Rain date for the Red Eye is Sunday Jan 6th. Hope everyone supports the FASCAR Triple Crown. Merry Christmas everyone!

Good luck Andrew !

Does this mean Terry is gone ?

Because their having the 1st Annual Easter Bunny Twin 50’s just for you that way you get two shots.

Look, If you cannot say anything decent about me, especially on a public forum, then keep your pie hole shut. Not very professional for a track employee. Thought about brining my car to the Pete Orr race, to help Bobby for Pete, but now you made my decision. NOT!
