New Smyrna Speedway - Best Short Track in U.S.!
Hey, it is what it is, it is good publicity and will likely help draw in fans and racers. Don’t see why some people cant just accept it - other than their own personal axe to grind.

I dont think anyone on here including Mark or probably even the Harts thinks that this result is an absolute fact and beyond debate. It can do nothing but help - we should get behind it and hope that it does. I sure as hell dont want the place to go downhill - do you?
No Bubba, obviously noone here wants the place to go down hill. Does " getting behind it" mean we always have to believe it is great, and always agree with everything going on at any track? My point was many places have gone out believing they were “the best”, from manufactured polls that usually are the result of whoever wanted it the most. I personally believe we need to give NASCAR a chance now and hope this is positive change, i believe it will help.
It is a nice track. I like the choice of seating during the weekly shows and the 1 in 25 chances of winning the 50/50 raffle. Honestly, I don’t think the majority of voters come here except for special events. NSS does have some outstanding special events.
ez i agree with everything you say except maybe the 1 in 25 chances of winning the 50/50 raffle, but then again thats probably not why anyone goes to the races anyhow.

I was being sarcastic, meaning 25 people in the stands for weekly shows. It has been a terrible few years, hopefully it will improve.

Dam i didnt vote.
Missed it.

NASCAR has had very little success in getting short tracks to sign up with them, not just in Florida but nationwide. So now that they’ve finally signed one, and right in their backyard at that, i’m sure the vast marketing department at NASCAR was " encouraged " to vote. Any publicity about NSS helps NASCAR and it’s marketing partners. I wouldn’t be surprised if a number of those partners were asked to vote as well.
Doesn’t matter if the vote is legit or not. NSS has had a great history.

NSS opened in April 1967 as “Daytona Raceway” and it was dirt… or at least what was considered dirt - it was mostly dust… Charlie Brown of St. Augustine won the first-ever LM race held there…

After trying to run the dirt surface, they finally gave up in mid-July… The track was then paved and the first race was held on a Sunday afternoon in September (I was there)… They ran a race for six cylinder cars and a 200 lap LM race. Donnie Tanner won the six banger race in Billy Wade’s #26 Chevy… Two guys better known as dirt-trackers finished first and second in the LM race, Larry Flynn and Ray Gardner. Since the field of LM cars was pretty thin, the promoter allowed several of the six cyl. cars to also enter the LM race and Tanner finished third in that one… He had a pretty good day!

The first actual “World Series” was a one-night LM show in 1968 and it was won by the legendary Tom Pistone driving what was essentially an old NASCAR GN Ford.

The World Series continued as a LM only event until 1976 when the Modifieds ran for the first time and the Thunder Cars were added a couple years later…

Early on, the track was promoted by guys like Ed Otto, Doc Epps and Mickey Johnson, but Clyde eventually got tired of dealing with other people and just started running things himself…

I really enjoyed announcing the World Series from the late '80s thru about 1995… Got to work with a lot of great people and it was cool to see and work with guys like Ben Dodge, Bill Slater and Dick Brooks each year…

The “Pro Four” cars and CASCAR were also a lot of fun to announce… They really put on some great shows… CASCAR was a highly controlled spec car series while the Pro Fours were a run whatcha brung type of thing…

It’s really changed a lot since back then… No 12 year olds with rich daddies footing the bill back then…

Still looks like there should be some good racing this year…

That’s your cue to tell us HOW you are working to improve it…
