An odd observation during the Nationwide race

All the Chevy’s running were Camaro’s except Mile Wallace in an Impala. I have never seen this before.

impala

The old 3 year rule ?
You can run a car that is 3 years current .
Anncer Dave will know.

Although you really can’t tell much, the three year rule does still exist and that still make the Impala body legal for Nationwide…

Nascar trivia

That’s why in 1978 Richard Petty was able to switch to the old Charger halfway through the season when the “NEW” Dodge Magnum proved to have the aero properties of a brick.

He also gave up on Dodge and switched to Pontiac after that. :frowning:

Actually ran a Chevrolet right after he switched from Dodge in 1978… Because bodies of the new Chrysler cars were not really that competitive with the Chevies for 1977, NASCAR allowed 1974 models to run an extra year… But in 1978 they had to run the Magnum… Several guys, including Buddy Arrington and Frank Warren still ran the Dodges and eventually changed to the Mirada body style which made a really good looking race car… A few of our local Super Stock guys still run a Mirada including Mike Hendrix and Ron Adams, who debuted his new car at OSW this past Friday… I’m pretty sure Cara Wells’ old car was a Mirada too…

that’s also why

A few ford teams ran the taurus body after the fusion body was first introduced.

another observation from the sprint cup race

Twice saturday night it was stated greg biffle had never won a short track race in sprint cup .bull .unless he got stripped of the win and i didn’t hear about it his first win in the sprint cup series came at richmond in the labor day weekend race about 7 or 8 years backy.can anybody check that or remember offhand the race i’m talking about?

It was Darlington (Southern 500) for years, and then they moved the second California date to that weekend. After that proved disastrous, they moved the fall Atlanta date to Labor Day, and that’s where they’ve been since.

If you mean a fall Richmond race, when they instituted the Chase, Richmond has been the last race before the Chase starts - in the middle of September (Sep 21st this year). Biffle’s first win was the Firecracker (Coke Zero) 400 in 2003.

Your first statement that Greg Biffle’s first win came at Richmond - which is a short track - was…well…incorrect, as Biffle’s first win was at Daytona in the Coke Zero 400 in July 2003. Biffle currently has 18 career Sprint Cup wins - none of which have ever come at Richmond - or even on a short track:

2003 Daytona (2.5)
2004 Michigan (2), Homestead (1.5)
2005 Fontana (2) , Texas (1.5) , Darlington (1.333), Dover (1), Michigan (2), Homestead (1.5)
2006 Darlington (1.333), Homestead (1.5)
2007 Kansas (1.5)
2008 Loudon (1.014), Dover (1)
2010 Pocono (2.5), Kansas (1.5)
2012 Texas (1.5), Michigan (2)
