Mr. Ray Snodgrass is coming out of retirement to run in the 100-lap $500 to win 4-Cylinder race at Melbourne Motorsports Park this coming Saturday… His sons are building a couple of cars to run the race and Ray will be in one of them… The Snodgrass family has always built sharp-looking equipment and these cars are gonna blow everyone away with their looks… I’m not sure how old Ray is, but he was the 1966 Late Model champion at Orlando Raceway - 47 years ago!!!
Here are a few shots of Ray back in the day 1963-66…
Must be something in that AARP bottled water lately… Former NY State racer Herb Layfield is also coming out if retirement to run a race at Skyline Raceway, at the age of 87 years old…
Herb won the first ever race there when the track opened… which I believe they said was 1953.
Ray Snodgrass never put a car on the track that didn’t look first class. He was primarily a Chevy man but I have pictures of a 57 Ford he ran at Golden Gate for the Governors Cup. Always 22 which is the same number we ran on my sons go-kart modified and late model.
Watched Kenny “grow up” racing the Limited Sportsman at Melbourne/Eau Gallie in the mid '70s.
Kenny was also a very accomplished R/C racer over at Lake Whippoorwill International Speedway in south Orlando. Now that was a first-class facility.
Didn’t Ray and Kenny build a street-legal '55 Chevy-bodied Late Model or something years ago?
This is the car you are thinking about Jimmy… This is a “real” replica of a '55 Chevy LM that Ray ran at some of the DAARA-type shows a few years ago…
