After watching some of the lame announcers during the TV broadcasts this week, wish we could bring back a guy like Larry Nuber… Hard to believe it’s been 13 years since he passed on June 8, 2000… He and Bob Jenkins made an incredible team and the guy was incredibly versed on all forms of racing… No boogity-boogity from Larry, just good, solid announcing and reporting…
I second that,
Changed from Darrel to Kyle…blah blah blah
We are showing our age. Right on Larry Nuber and ANYTHING is better than the boogity boys although I do like Mike Joy.
The FOX group couldn’t go away fast enough to suit me. FOX, the home of the " I know everything about everything, and l’ll tell it to you whether you want it or not " Mike Joy, and the " pay attention to me ,pay attention to me " Waltrip brothers is finally gone.
Replaced by an easy to listen to and well informed Wally Dallenbach, a chatty cathy doll named Kyle Petty, and another guy who’s not even worth remembering his name. Oh, and Larry McReynolds is still around. Who is he sleeping with to stay in the broadcasting business?
My picks for best all time tv race announcers,
Neil Bonnett
Benny Parsons
Bob Jenkins
Buddy Baker
Ned Jarrett
Larry Nuber
Of the newer guys I like
Dale Jarrett
Andy Petree
Allen Bestwick
Andy Petree
What most on the list have in common is actual racing experience, and they don’t spend every second on self promotion.

I agree with all your picks. I’d add Mike Joy to the list, Chris Ekonomaki, and Ken Squire. Guess I really am old.
Larry Nuber was as good as it got in his time. He paid a very dear price for extolling Jeff Gordon for what he was at the time in question. It is a shame that people who know of what they speak are punished for what is the political correctness of what they say. No I am not a Gordon fan but at that time he was much like Kyle Larson today, a winner in any type car on any surface. RIP Larry and I enjoyed Thursday Night Thunder except Voglers unfortunate wreck. While I am at it Rip to him as well.
I liked Jimmy Spenser too. Lots of passion in his announcing. Maybe that’s why he’s gone…
-JIM-
I liked Eli Gold also.
Spencer use to be pretty good, but now he’s just another goofball that needs to go job hunting with that POS Rutledge Wood.
Also, I’m not a sexist, but has there EVER been a female racing announcer that’s even close to talented? Not that I can remember.
Ah, Eli Gold. Back in the day when I couldn’t get MRN in my hometown hearing Eli’s iconic voice meant I was at the Speedway. Always gave me chills. Later when I could finally get MRN, I would often turn off the sound on the TV and turn on MRN. With the cast of clowns shoved down our throat with TV today I think it is time to do that again. The Jenkins/Nuber/Parsons/Punch combo was the best in the business. As far as female announcers/reporters go, I like Wendy Venturini. She has the knowledge, family pedigree and is not just another mind-numbing, history-ignorant blonde bimbo like most of the rest.
Two more guys that come to mind…
The original NASCAR broadcaster, with an incredible voice - Bob Montgomery
and one of my favorites, opinionated as all get out and a voice like nails on a chalkboard, but he really knew the sport - Sir Jackie Stewart…

I really liked Eli Gold on the radio but couldn’t stand him on TV. On TV, it seemed he was announcing something that wasn’t really happening. On the radio you can get away with that. On TV, I was just going: What you talking bout, Eli? I only watched Spencer a few times and really liked him. Unfortunately, I didn’t subscribe to the network he was on.
The Jenkins/Nuber/Parsons/Punch combo was the best in the business.
I agree with that comment.
Larry was a mentor to many of us in ASA . he taught us a lot about sponsors and how to interact with them thanks old buddy for the lessons rip

Careful what you wish for. Since Danicas racing days are numbered surely she will be asked to be an expert commentator by some network.
They aren’t, but she’d do well as a race commentator.
I’d go along with Jackie Stewart. I’d also have to include the entire current F1 announcing team, minus the ever annoying Lee Diffy. One of the members of that group, David Hobbs, is the Dave Despain of F1. He knows his stuff, isn’t afraid to voice an opinion, and is pretty funny.
Anouncers?
I noticed that the last few on the list were really good drivers in their own right, good enough and humble enough to not need to tell everyone else about it.
Stewart not only was a F-1 World Champion and a great broadcaster, but a writer as well… He penned an incredible two-part article for Auto Racing magazine in the early '70s in which he examined how F-1 racing could be made safer, going track by track and showing what needed to be done to improve both driver and fan safety…
Spencer?
I can remember befor he got to Ca$hcar, he was a crash-bang rough rider in the Northern Open Wheel Modified Circut, don’cha just love it when he dumps on others for driving just like he did? How many times did he ram into Sr. after a race , because it was the only time he could catch him. Not many ever said anything because he was a big physical guy who had a rep. for enjoying fistecuffs after a race.

In the Tampa Bay area Cup races are broadcast on 102.5 fm radio.
