Former Florida/NC racing great Randy Tissot passed away peacefully this afternoon in a hospice near his home… One of the best to ever sit behind the wheel of a stock car… A champion at Hialeah, Palm Beach, Miami-Hollywood, Orlando and Eau Gallie before moving to North Carolina… RIP “Round Man”
Randy Tissot
Spent many saturday nighs at Hialeah speedway and Palm Beach watchin him race door to door with the likes of Brack, Balough, Rogero and others. Condolences to the family on their loss. Was definitely one of the best to ever wheel a race car. Will be missed!!!
RIP and thanks for the memories. He was never afraid to use the outside and got put in the wall on more than one occasion. One of his scarier incidents happened at Eau Gallie when he had a clutch explode. He got no shrapnel but it bowed the dash and severed his fuel pressure line. He was using an electric fuel pump and you never saw a man exit a car as quick as he did. In those days with just a lap belt it was fairly easy to get out.
R.I.P. Rapid One.
Not the greatest picture by far, but here’s the #1X Chevelle at Tampa for the Governor’s Cup in 1973.
When I was very little, Palm Beach was the first race track I can remember going to. I could give you a Late Model feature lineup before I knew my ABC’s - and “Wapid Wandy Tissssotttttt” would be part of it. ← coming from a 2-year-old playing with Hot Wheels…LOL
Did he live in Oviedo?
I have a good picture of his car on my phone, just cant figure out how to post it. I could text the picture if someone want to post it
Randy lived in Hollywood, FL then moved to Asheville, NC in the mid-1970s…
