One of the best wheelmen ever in Central Florida turns 40 for the second time around today… Ernie Bass was one of my favorites as a kid growing up… a good, steady driver who won his share but never tore up his equipment… He seemed to get better with age and was one of the guys to beat every week at Winter Have/Auburndale for several years… Happy Birthday Ernie!!!
A very happy birthday indeed. You are quite right that he didn’t tear up his equipment but Robby Ashton sure helped him all he could especially at Eau Gallie.
U R right eg… Here’s Robbie spinning Ernie out right in front of Stan Kross at Eau Gallie… Photo made the rotogravure cover of Illustrated Speedway News in 1966…
I knew there was something I always liked about Ernie. We have the same birthday! So the way u figure it Dave I’m only 28.5 on my 2nd time around?
If that’s the case why do I feel a lot older!
Happy Birthday Ernie and David!!!
Ernie Bass was always my HERO!!!
The bottom car in the 3 picture is the first car I ever drove, traded Leon Williams 3 trailer tires for it after they were do with it!!!
Happy Birthday Mr Bass!!!
