Sportsman drivers....

As requested by many Sportsman racers, they have been added to the New Smyrna Speedweek. Every year the track hears the same thing… “You should give us weekly guys a chance to race in front of a national audience”.

And every year, they fail to show up.

Looking at the latest updates for the Pre-Entries shows a grand total of ZERO Sportsman cars have bothered to pre enter.

The lack of support has been the reason they are usually NOT included… but they are trying to give you guys one more chance.

If you’re planning on coming, take the 10 minutes it takes to send in an entry form. Show at least a LITTLE effort into proving you will support this show.

If its not worth your time, I wouldn’t blame them a bit if they throw in the towel for any future Speedweeks events for you guys.

Jerry, jerry, now take a deep breath. I don’t think anyone was aware that there was a pre-entry for this race (I sure didn’t). Besides, there is no entry fee for this event so pre-entry is kinda unnecessary. Don’t you worry your pretty little head, there will be a big field. The Red Eye drew 21 cars and I wasn’t even aware they were on the card that nite (and for extra cash to boot!). I’m sorry I missed it because from what people said here it was the race of the nite. Your kinda misinformed about the last time Sportsman were a part of Speedweeks. Other divisions may not have drawn cars in the past but the Sportsman averaged 17 cars over their 3 nite run in 2006. Anyway, thanks for reminding everyone that we ARE part of the show (drivers included). Should be a great nite with a big field. See ya there!:ernaehrung004:

You just can’t seem to grasp the concept of giving the fans a show. Pre entry, for your future reference, is used as a marketing tool to increase fan interest in the up coming races. The track publishes the list, the fans get excited by who and how many are coming. So on the contrary, pre entry is very necessary.

Everybody in the thread so far has made good points. I think Matt’s comment about it building excitement etc is a big one. I also see Scott’s point about the pre-entry not meaning much in that division. Sooooooo…

Make pre-entry count for something - free entry for somebody, first 20 get some thing - guaranteed top 20 starting spot - free entry for a future date at nss…something like that. BTW - the format for the last race was great - no qualifying - more three wide racing than i have seen successfully pulled off in years there.

If you give them a reason to sign up early you can then market it to the masses.

Matt, you contradict yourself. I thought nobody comes out to see support divisions? Why then would a list of lowly Sportsman drivers generate any fan interest? I certainly haven’t seen any solicitation anywhere to pre-register on my part so don’t blame the drivers for that. If a bunch of people pre-registered and didn’t show up what good would that be? The last Sportsman show was a thriller with a good field according to all reports. Sounds like it was a good show for the fans.

The biggest reason there is a pre entry is that they spend a lot of time doing a pull coler program for the world series.
The northern fan realey buy the heck out of them.
For the program to look pro it needs to have a roster of car and pics.
If you want to promote ur team you need have sent a pic stats and a short story trying to get them to use it.
Looks good when looking for sponsors.
The person in the past to do the program is Jane and it makes her happy to have stuff for the book.
It might be late now but try.

Thanks for the info Don. I wasn’t aware of that. I will try and get that stuff off to whoever needs to get it at New Smyrna. If anyone from New Smyrna is reading this, please let us know where and who to get this info to. I’m sure a bunch of sportsman drivers will see this on here and be happy to help out.

That only applies to vintage Monte’s…

If you race a sportsman,4cyl,6cyl,or import, fans will pack the stands to come see you race.

I didn’t know there was a pre-entery either. I’ll be there…

My brand new car will be there, you heard it here first.

Glad to see Bubba also enjoys (and appreciates) “No Qualifying”…Now, if only tracks would listen…Thanks Bubba …OSF

Scott… I think you misunderstood my intentions here:

It’s not me that is worried about the car count, its the track. They are the ones that can add or delete any class from Soeedweeks. Maybe the Sportsman had a good turnout a few years ago, but for the most part, the support classes don’t turn out in big numbers like they were promised. They are the ones that need to re-assured that they aren’t making a mistake again.

You yourself came from an area that does a great job of promoting upcoming events, and it always includes the names of a bunch of racers who will be there. Help them to help you.

If nobody bothered to pre-enter, or at least let their intentions be known, there wouldn’t be a 3 page thread that has had close to 4300 hits so far… a full month in advance.

For many racers around the country, coming to New Smyrnas World Series is a BIG deal. I’m sure it is for the Sportsman also, so it shouldn’t be too much to ask them to let the track know you’re coming.

On the bright side, the NSS Pre-entry page now lists 2, and with you and Patrick, there’s 4… it beats the hell out of zero yesterday

Actually I DID know your intentions. You were trying to light a flame under our asses because, as a fan, you care. I appreciate that. I just don’t think many of us knew. I’ll pre enter as soon as possible. I do thank you for bringing it to my (our) attention.

AND OH SNAP! Patrick’s coming with his new ride? He is one bad mofo at NSS! No offense to anyone else, but if Aaron Williamson and Brandon Morris show up you will have the three best Sportsman drivers in the state racing IMHO.:ernaehrung004:

yes

I will be there, had the car at the red-eye and had a good chance of winning, car just wouldnt shift correctly on restarts.
