ead for Citrus.........i think...

Hi all…
Been a while. Decided to take a vacation day today to go support my local track (citrus) and get my “need for speed”.
Weather being testy right now and my luck it will wash.
Looking forwrd to some wingless and mods (& a hot dog or two).
If I go…ill be pit side with my Steve park hat on. (Yeah I know…don’t be a hater).
If any of u make the trek…say hi.

Hoping Bradley makes the top spot tonight.

Dennis

Well…just got back and thankfully the rain gods spared the evening.

First time at track in over 2+ years. Not sure what to think.:fragend005:

Dennis… should’ve taken the extra 45 minute ride to Ocala. 7 or 8 out of 10 for the show. We were late, so I don’t have a full vote on it.

BUT, they got the show in, after driving through at least 3 storms to get there.

PS - Miss you Bro…! You and the Fam are always a blast to see and hang with. Give my best to Nicole & Danica.

Why, what happen?

If this double replies…my apologies. Tried to upload a photo or two and this site doesn’t make it easy for me and mobile phone. Already had a reply Going and lost it.

First off…thanks for the interest guys. Jerry, I probably would have gone to Ocala but $$$ & gas pretty much kept me local. Considering Citrus is right in my backyard and I saw that they were having what I considered a “great card” (50 lap mods and wingless sprints ) I was pretty much sold on that. Wow…what a let down overall.

A couple weeks ago, someone posted on here about their trip to citrus and got bashed for some minor mis-information. Technicalities …big deal. Sorry to say but I don’t think he was far from the truth.

My hats off to drivers and fans that you have to suffer. You are my heroes. I felt like I was in a totally different place then years past. My first worry should have bee
n the somewhat empty pits and and low car count. It was rough.

Sorry…these numbers are give and take but I can’t seem to post pictures for overall effect. 2- hornets…8- pure stocks…7-street stock (I’ve lost serious faith in that division)…12- legends…7- lower level F-8’s…14- sprints and 7-mods.
Although racing was decent…the atmosphere was not. You could tell there was no electricity in the air ( besides lightning). Shane Butler blew the doors off the sprint field. Richie Smith ran a good mod race ( oh BTW was shortened to 35 laps…reason unknown. Either car count , time or weather). Gator hise got screwed on a spin. Kyle bookmiller has my admiration for being honest about his election to go to rear after spinning out hise in the first incident. Street stocks…u don’t want to know my thoughts. . All I can refer to is Wayne Heckle at NSS back in the 80’s driving what looked to be a late model in a lower class. Domination to say the least. Not far off here in this class. I enjoyed the legends but Kory Abbott would have ran away with it igf his front end hadn’t gone right when he turned left. Probably the best race of the night.

Pretty accurate, it’s a dead atmosphere, even on the pit side.

Although, I’ve got to disagree about Gator Hise getting screwed on a spin…

Sounds like Desoto should offer a little towing money and just put Citrus out of it’s misery.
Actually i hate that Citrus has fallen so far in such a short time. But they seem to be bringing it on themselves.

Its not the money

Its not the money, its the long ride home after a hard day in the heat, trying not to fall asleep somwhere in between myakka and San Antonio. Sundays are all but wasted.

True mpf74, it’s a long ride to and from Desoto (plus another 20 miles down 52 to Port Richey). But it’s totally worth it. We spend too much money on this deal to not run where we’re happy. Do what I do. Pack a couple of 5 Hour Energy shots in your cooler. They always get me home!

That stuff is bad for you dude.

Healthier than falling asleep at the wheel towing 10,000 lbs! Lol!

You say that but wait till you hit forty and realize all that shit that was keeping you “up” has got you down and you might start to think otherwise. I truly believe we’re gonna see in the not to distant future that all those energy drinks are as bad as smoking, or worse.

Man Lurkin, I thought you were joking again! As far as “when I hit forty”, I’m about 8 years past that pit stall! Supposedly it just has B vitamins and caffeine in it, but who knows. You might be right. But, like I said, healthier than making my own exit off of I-75. That’s about the only time I down ‘em. However, waking up everyday with those things or mixing them with hard alcohol (like a Jager Bomb) can’t be too good for your heart. Thanks for lookin’ out though!:ernaehrung004:

I never joke.

I raced at Citrus on 7-26 and had no complaints. The stands for the TBARA race were packed that night. I’m not sure if it was standing room, but it had to be close. The track was friendly to us, and all the employees were on their game…no problems there for me.

I could list 30+ drivers who have moth balled their car or just gone elsewhere over the current state of affairs at Citrus, many of us former track champions. When you come into a small town like Inverness or Floral City with a history of trouble, shady dealings and refer to us as “Good Old Boys” and “Hillbilly’s” you aren’t going to do well with getting the local drivers or businesses to support you. Throw in a few really big lies, left field type rules, bad checks to vendors, lies to cover up the first lies and bad mouthing the life blood of the track and you have the current Citrus County Speedway…but if you ask the current regime leader its the economy, a few troublemakers, the weather or whatever else he can come up with. He has made so many enemies over the years that the damage is irreversible. We all gave him the benefit of the doubt, but the old adage holds true…a leopard NEVER loses it’s spots. The track will be up for bid again in 2017 and at that time we will get a new promoter (if he doesn’t fold up before then) and the cars will come back in droves. The current promoter has done more to run people off than get them on the track and the fans know it. If you are looking for a GOOD track to visit, hit up BRP, NSS or Desoto.

Ive read and heard the complaints about Citrus Co. Speedway

And visited the track a half dozen times or so(but never raced there) and what made me curious was your statements about Inverness Mini 26.I usually stay in the Inverness area for about a week when I come to the races there and during my stays kind of fell in love with the area and was considering moving there. If there is anything you know about the town that I dont explain further. As far as the track goes my biggest complaints have been the decrepid old stands and the fact they havent been drawing enough cars in every division and the fact that they have now shortened their late model races to the point that its not worth me driving all the way from Ft.Myers to come there anymore. But if there is something about the town that might persuade me not to want to move there feel free to elaborate.

Its a GREAT place to live, we just have a piss poor race track right now. The area is great.

Well I just hope

If that I do make the move there, that the racetrack situation will improve.

It is near Webster Flea Mkt–open Mondays only–which is huge and will be close by.

Also they have a Automotive Swap shop at the Webster Fairgrounds once a month for most months that is also huge (parts?).

It’s about an hour and change to New Smyrna, St Pete, or Volusia, also.

And have seen some fair and some great shows at Inverness. Will be checking it out again once the days get a little shorter.
