notes from Volusia

Well, I don’t remember ever seeing this before. In last nights Hobby stock feature, a car spun out in turn 2. He managed to turn it into a 360 and keep going. No problem so far, right? The funny thing is that he did the same thing twice more in the same race. Three 360’s, no yellows and he never hit anything.

Promoters take note: do you know what made our decision to go Volusia last night? When my youngest found out about the “Wiener Nationals”, the debate was over! He had to go see the racing Dachshunds.

I saw Craig Montessie in the Thunder stock field last night. In 1973, I was a kid in the stands at Hialeah while Craig was one of the stars in the famous Cyclone division. Its cool to see how some racers stick with it for so long.

It was a pleasant night. In fact, the biggest complaint I can think of is that my beer was frozen solid! Otherwise, no problems.

I went w a friend and our kids, for the most part they had never been to the races before. They thought it was awesome! Great racing in nearly every class, double features for the hobby stocks was incredibly entertaining. The first winner lost his wheel coming to the checkers.

In addition to the 360s boneman mentioned there was another one in the 2nd hobby stock feature right in the middle of the field going into 3 which somehow did not produce a 20 car pileup.

Some wild racinf and a great night, just about when the kids were getting antsy they ran the wiener nationals which rejuvenated them.

Great show, vsp is looking good.

I thought it was going to be a dog fight, but it turns out the Wiener Nationals was a dachshund costume contest and race. The good thing about the race is that it was the only time all night that Wild Child didn’t throw the “lazy yellow” and call them back!

No doubt re the wildchild, my friends kept asking who the wildchild was amd why do hey keep redoing the start. They were sick of hearing his name by the end of night!

The called back starts got absurd… it was like he was trying to prove a point. I do like the announcing team they’ve put in place, apparently the mindless repetition of the other dude was wearing others. The track really threw the drivers curveball with the surface. Dry slick and then drier slick.

So Rex where did you place in the wiener race ?

Yeah, I tried to enter and found it was for dogs. Jeez…

Prolly Craig Jr?

Fantastic show as always.
