Tire Update for New Smyrna Speedway

Effective for the beginning of the 2015 regular season: The Modified, Sportsman and Super Stock classes will be running the Hoosier R 750 tire. Teams in these three divisions will be allowed to use their old tires for the first two races only. Starting the third week, the only tire allowed in these three classes will be the Hoosier R 750…

Wow.

Am hoping it isn’t too much of a negative deal for the modified guys.

Here are some ongoing good things:

>Your cars are some of the lightest
>And have the a ton of engine setback
>And are seriously fast
>And finally, look bad to the bone!

The real question is, like Cup, which Team(s) will get it figured first?

Have a set on my OWM and tested at Bronson one day a few weeks ago. Stickers were a little iffy at best. Second set of 10 laps was better. Third set of 10 laps was much better. The main thing I noticed was there were no marbles in or on the car and tread depth had not changed after 30 fast laps.
I can’t compare to the F-53 slick because as an e-mod we ran the 650/450 last year at NSS. The first 2 races the cars with the F-53 will have the advantage though… JMO.

You guys will enjoy this tire I think. We just changed to it from the 800 up here. There was some testing just after the season ended and everyone loved how the tire came in after a couple heat cycles and stayed consistent for the life of the tire. I think this stands to be a big positive going forward for FL racing in regards to getting cars to the track more often.

The cost for using the toy(race car) is waaaay more important than the price toy(race car) itself.

That is exactly one of the main reason why dirt racing has an advantage on asphalt as far as car count. Tires last longer, not as much fuel because of shorter race and next to no practices, on race day or during the week.

Anything you can do to drop the ‘‘how much it costs to play with the toy’’, the more participants you will have.

Bingo, Andre, very well said

You would think that having 3 classes of cars with the same tire on all four corners would amount to buying in “bulk” with a cost savings.

Maybe they will pass some of that on to the racers.

Hey, it could happen…

First off how much are they going to cost? Haven’t heard anything about price. Just how great this tire is. Then why would the tracks/tire vendors want a tire that lasts longer, are cheaper and could be sold to another racer/class that cnew cannot afford new ones when needed. They said initally that the 650 was going to be cheaper and we all know what happened there. Just wish they would leave something alone for once. Time to put the car cover on it again. BTW I do have 4 F-53’s, brand new for sale. $400. 407-282-1276 Orlando

Whatever they cost they can’t be more than we pay for our sports car tires. $2000 per set, they MAY last 2 weekends, and we have to pay an entry fee with ZERO purse.

DD38 your right back where you started now your going to have to buy a whole set of tires for your car to race . I would think that if the tires last longer they would charge more not less just. you would never buy a more superior product and pay less. my philosophy on the subject.

Jacko,

The sporty car is cool, no doubt, but you bought a modified!

If I was wealthy, I would race both, but if I could only afford one…

shorttrack,

Typically, cost is determined by supply and demand.

Like a new diecast car? $1-$5.

Discover the Reutimann modified years after production has ceased: $60 (as seen at NSS).

But tars are mandated, so the source (the tracks) set the cost.

However, the tracks also need the cars to get the fans to keep the lights on, so it is almost a US/USSR detante a la the Reagan/Gorby days.

My guess: The cost will be about the same, maybe drop a little to begin with, so the playas won’t stay at the house as DD38 mentions.

Some people will complain and complain and complain, reminds me of that Energizer Battery commercial with the rabbit beating the drum.

Jacko & Short Track, Race Cars were ment to run on Slicks . Thats what the 650 were suppose to do. Be cheaper and last longer. That didn’t happen. Crappy tire and costs more and didn’t last. Jacko, If you can afford to run a sports car at tire prices like that, I applad you. But not all of us it"s all we can do to run a Modified or equivalant type car. I know a Super Stock on any given nite that bolts 4 new tires on every nite it runs. Why don’t they all go ahead (tracks) and put the Pro Late, Limited Late and best of all the Super Lates on this too. I see a car cover in my future, again.

First wife didn’t work out.

But I kept at it and now am in pretty good shape with the third (or is it forth…?) one.

Good thing I didn’t quit after the first few.

Maybe someone will loan you a set for a few laps.

Remember, it ain’t about the smoothness of the tires, it’s all about getting under that SOB  that is in front of you!

I was told that the tire is the same price

Same as the F-53??

DD, am I mistaken, aren’t the 750s slicks? No, I can’t really afford to buy those $2000 tires, but I am fortunate I have a nice brother who can!

Here is the tire. It is a slick with grooves. The grooves are designed to promote grip and cool the tire.

The 650 was not a good compound. Hopefully the 750 works better. It’s been raced in many areas in the country with great success.

What tire did the mods run during the World Series?
