No weight penalty for quick changes?

Hey Scott

No weight penalty, and 7 1/4 triple disk clutch ok too.

here’s the rules from their facebook page- hope you can maybe get up there this season!

What is it with that place. One step forward, one step back. They eliminate the quick change penalty (nobody else had one). Now they allow the super clutch (nobody else allows it anymore). First rule change made me want to come up and race, second rule change will keep me away though…JUST MAKE YOUR FRIGGIN’ RULES LIKE EVERYONE ELSE’S!!!

I see that as a Pro LM with a 2 barrel… JMO…
And this rule change came out ONE WEEK before the first race… SMH …

Pretty much identical to the old Limited Late Model rules (of which there are ZERO left out there). I just don’t get their mindset, Jim. :fragend005:

Scott, I assume that it is a reciprocating weight deal?

That is, I assume everyone gets their (single disk?) clutch to hold , but the “7 1/4 triple disk” unit provides holding power at a lower weight.

Lower reciprocating weight = ability to rev quicker.

Do I have that right?

At any rate, the question is why rulesmakers would do that, and I will bet it was at the request of a guy or two that already have them.

What about a list of names that will not be able to make it because they are not going to change a clutch (and spend the money to do it) just to race there.

Maybe some impact…

You are spot on, Old School. 20 lbs less reciprocating weight at the back of the crank is HUGE! A brief history, only the old Punta Gorda track allowed them on Sportsman. FUPS (what a dead name for a series) allowed them with a 100 lb penalty. When Desoto reopened with the old PGS people running it they allowed it too with the 100 lbs. Now nobody allows it except now Bronson. There can’t be many PGS teams going to BMS. The Limiteds that also ran it have been dead since '08. It’s asinine. It will keep more cars away than draws. Even if you have one you also have a stock one if you still run anywhere. Problem is Bronson guys who want that huge advantage with no weight penalty and the money will spend the extra $1000+ to get it. I race to win. I will not show up without one or spend an extra $1000+ to race for $400 to win at a track I rarely go to. It’s too bad. I love Bronson’s layout.

So tell me why a lot of the SLM want to a new 7 1\4 12 lb clutch when there rule is 5’’ and half the weight.
a light clutch is not as good as you might think at that track.
At Bronson a 4412 Holly would be better than a 750.
I know that this stuff wont make any sence to many of you but check it out.
and for those of you that do sorry for letting the cat out of the bag.

Scott, according to my 2015 Performance Parts Supply catalogue, page 85, a brand new Quarter Master 3 disk 7 1/4" complete clutch assembly is $577.10- I understand that is not inexpensive, but it is not $1000.00.

BTW; it was another good night of racing at Bronson this past Saturday. Mod field was light but was a good race- Gary Southard still has it as a driver, Robbie Cooper kept him honest.
Limited Late Models had a nice turnout- 11 cars- and put on a good show. Strickly and Pure Stocks had 14 and 11 cars. Need to get a few more Street Stocks out there…

$700 and change for the real light one, $150 for the ultra light flexplate and around $200 for the throwout bearing. Go big or go home. I won’t stay home, I’ll just go to Desoto…

well good luck to you this season there- I wish it wasn’t so far from me but 4+ hours is too much of a drive, LoL- I don’t even like having to drive 2 to get to Bronson.
BTW- what ever happened to the plans for Lake City/Ellisville in 2015, did you hear anything when you raced there last November?

Scott, Desoto is still allowing a 7 1/4" with a 100lbs penalty. Auburndale does also with a 100lbs penalty. Although I’m not sure if you still have to lose 1% left side or not, at the 75 lapper everyone was at 56% left side. The tech man at Showtime told me to bring it with the 100lbs penalty, but that was at the end of last year before my crash, so I’m not sure about this years rules.

Bids are being taken to repave Ellisville/Lake City right now. Other improvements as well. This is the last I heard yesterday…

OK thanks Jim

if accurate then ::::> THAT! IS! AWESOME!

Josh (ss82): I stand corrected. You are right that Desoto still allows it with the 100lb penalty. I’ll take your word on Auburndale since I won’t go there. I wouldn’t have a problem going to Bronson if they had the weight penalty since 100lbs also is huge and with the extra weight spending all that money for an even swap doesn’t make sense. Josh, are you coming to Desoto Saturday?

Scott Prentice: Thanks for the well wishes for 2015. Awesome news about Lake City from Jim. Whenever it’s reopened after the paving I will be there for sure! Maybe somebody can talk some sense in whoever running tech at Bronson. Add the 100 lbs for the super clutch. It will draw more cars than it shoos. If they did I would definitely come up at some point this year. Probably August when Desoto is off. Thanks for keeping us updated on Bronson. If it wasn’t for you, I’d have no idea what goes on up there.

I do have to say I agree with the weight penalty, because if it were the other way around I wouldn’t want to race them straight up. I wish all the tracks would allow them with the weight penalty because I feel they would get more cars that do run them, but I’m thankful for the few that do because I don’t have any of my big clutch stuff anymore. Although I’m probably going to have to bite the bullet here pretty soon to buy it all again if i want to travel around.

I might be there just to watch. I’ve been getting stuff little by little to get the car back together, but won’t make this one. I’ve had so much going on and slammed with work, so no real time to work on it. Should be on my jig in the next couple of weeks to see if the clips are salvageable and go from there. Sucks because it WAS a brand new car Lol. Brought it out to the 75 lapper at Auburndale to just shake it down and get some laps and broke a trans in practice, along with a trailing arm bracket the night before. Fixed all of that and tested at Desoto and had a very good car off of the trailer. Then was lucky enough to get rained out the next day Lol. So, changed a couple things and went back to Auburndale for the charity race to try to get a race in finally. Then in practice, on the first lap at speed the throttle hung and I stuffed it in the wall. So I guess you could say I’m having a good time with this new car Lol

I don’t know ss82, but he has a great attitude! If everyone was like him, racing would be even more enjoyable!
