Florida is a seasonal service oriented economy with low paying jobs and 0 manufacturing…You used to live down here and are not aware of that?

The other issue is obviously the cost to the racer. I’ve said it 100 times on here, we know the promoter’s can’t pay more, but they can make it cheaper and make this a hobby again.
Take this from a guy who has one of the fastest Late models in Florida sitting in a garage on jack stands… And there are dozens like me who still LOVE this sport/HOBBY but have said enough is enough.
No disrespect, but why don’t you unload the late model, move on to a lower class, and just go have fun? In the end, that is what racing at the hobby level is all about.
“Florida is a seasonal service based economy with low paying jobs and 0 manufacturing,You lived down here [Phil,] and were not aware of that?”-Kendo
No, he’s not.
Mike,
Perhaps you have read some of my radical (or silly, hard to tell which…) thoughts on reducing the costs of late model racing.
“Bracket” Racing-- (run whatyabrung, the track will separate the cars into classes, zero rules), and,
“Affordable” late models–.450 max valve lift, 1.94 intake valve, 8" tire, stiff RF spring, make it heavy enough so a stock clip sportsman car can compete.
And you are probably aware that Bobby Diehl is reaching out to racers precisely in your basket.
But nevermind all of that, what do you think it would take to get your car back on the track and put the fun back in it for you?

Plenty aware of that. I also made 65k a year while living there working in a body shop busting my ass to make a wage. Something kids these days have no understanding of cause everything is handed to them. It’s called hard working. There are plenty of opportunities in FL especially around the cities such as Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm. If you take the time in school to learn a trade in an industry in demand in FL like I did, you can earn a good wage.
LMAO,Tell that to the women who promotes VSP,Tell that to the successful business partners that just bought Putnam County Speedway.
Have you ever actually owned a business?
Yeah, and guess what… VSP is probably doing pretty good huh? Putnam probably isn’t struggling either? Because they have someone that understands in charge… Thank’s for proving my point!
A lot of the time these pencil pusher pricks in charge have no clue how 1 change in the rules can affect 10 other things. One thing they think might be helping us actually hurts us. There was a severe case of this at Stafford Speedway here in CT this winter. 1 change became a huge financial ripple effect and people were posting their cars for sale left and right. It was quickly reverted and adjusted.
FYI, I do Co-Own a small business with my father in addition to my 50hr a week full time job. We do sound systems and light systems in entertainment venues from clubs to arenas and others. It is a side business, but it is a business none the less.
That aside, I never mentioned ownership skip. I mentioned being in charge aka managment. You don’t have to be the owner to manage it.
Well good for you skippy, sorry you couldn’t stick around,We all have those friends who moved here and moved back north,It sure isn’t because of the weather.

Would have loved to stick around brother… It is what it is. Grandmother had cancer and decided I would like to spend some time with her and my other two existing grandparents while I still could. I’ll be back, and I’ll buy you a beer lol
And NO… It definitely wasn’t for the weather bahahaha
Hate to get political, but you may also want to take note that despite what you hear on the evening news (false unemployment rates, big housing recovery) up there in liberal elite land ,people are still hurting here,Florida was one of the states hit hardest by the recession/housing crisis (because we are seasonal based tourist economy). In the decent neighborhoods that I own homes every other house is a rental that was once previously family owned.People that I know got big pay cuts (my wife included) lost jobs, lost homes, and have not returned to previous pay scales, and are struggling just to get by.
Agreed, good job Phil.
Just pretend shortrack is one of the grandparents, perhaps.
$65K doing bodywork? Man, have been in and out of that, painted a few cars for pay on my own along the way, and never made enough coin to mention. More power to ya, though.
Coincidentally am pounding a big-a dent out of a junkyard '85 monte carlo LF fender right now that is bent a lot less than the one my kid pulled out into traffic with a couple of weeks ago…
Trust me, I know how bad it is there, I was there during the crash and lost my ass on a house. I visit 6 or 7 times a year mostly just for weekend trips, but I have a number of friends in Real Estate in the area I lived in, and they have seen a slight upswing but nothing like what they try and make you believe on TV as you say. Make no mistake, just because I live here, doesn’t mean I follow the liberal bullshit beliefs up here lol I moved here for family and to get my start in oval track cause I knew people here to help me get a foot in the door a bit easier than there. From my experiences with Florida, it all depends on where you are located as far as jobs are. When I lived in Orlando for college, I actually had a pretty decent paying job for a part time gig but I agree those types of jobs are few and far between compared to here. One thing you gotta remember though is just because we make more on paper here, doesn’t mean we are better off. The cost of living, taxes, expenses etc are substantially higher here than there. At my current rate of pay, after taxes, expenses for work travel etc, I make pretty much exactly what I did down there. Unless you get into a huge corporation or some stuffed suit job up here, you really aren’t going to make a good wage. This is something I tried to explain to OS at one point also. Sure there is more money here, but there is more expense also. My mother as an ER nurse was clearing 100k here and when we moved down there the same job paid 80ish if I remember correctly, but we could afford more there. It’s kind of strange how it all worked out. Now I know that isn’t the case in every single situation but it really isn’t as bad as you always think it is.
There are plenty of people in every area that are struggling to get by. There are more homeless people that I see in my travels around here than I ever did down there. So it’s kind of subjective to me when you start talking about how we make more money and Florida is so poor. Yanno what I mean? If you’re willing to work for it, the opportunities are there in FL. They may be different opportunities than here and may involve harder work, but they are there.
Personally, I miss busting my ass every day as opposed to my cushy desk job. I truly hate being indoors all the time, but it does have it’s perks… I get to argue with awesome people like you all day
Gotta do what you gotta do, not trying to shame ya don’t worry just stating a fact. She’s in a better place thankfully.
Wait, what?
You went to college?
Language Arts, I presume?
Agreed, good job Phil.

I lived in Vero Beach which is a massive retirement area… Lots of work in the body shop biz… I was lucky enough to land in the top shop in town for the last 4 years I was there after being in a mid grade shop for the previous 6. I never really did much bodywork. I painted. That’s where the money is in a body shop really.

No, I went to UTI for about 6 months and said the hell with that crap. Waste of time and money. I learned more in my own garage by accident than they taught me there on purpose lol
And a UTI for six months!?
(man it is hard to get a rise out of ya today. Guess I will have to start a Speedworld thread…)

Not in an argumentative mood today I guess
Yes, it’s a Kinder, Gentler, Phil!
We all knew you had it in you!
