Best day of the year for televised auto racing. Sometimes the racing lives up to expectations, sometimes not.
The F1 race race at Monaco was the usual. Great scenery and interesting racing. But no passing to speak of. The finish was pretty strange by any standard.
The Indy race was great. Came down to 4 or 5 cars at the end, and any of those cars could have won. Montoya wanted it more.
World 600 was okay, but 600 miles is just too long. I hate fuel mileage races and that’s what the 600 always seems to turn into. Edwards was really no factor at all during the race, then gets better gas mileage and wins.
Funniest quote of the night by DW, but he was serious. " we hardly ever talk about Jimmy Johnson until late in the race"
I just noticed the tv ratings for the World 600. Since FOX took over the broadcasts in 2001, this version of the Charlotte race was among the lowest rated nascar broadcasts ever. It was soundly beaten by the Indy 500 broadcast. And that hasn’t always been the case.
Why?
People anticipated the race would stink?
People are getting fed up with the FOX version ( waltrips ) of nascar?
People think the race is too long?
People think the race isn’t as important as it once was?
People found other things to do this year?
nascar is dying, and Indy car racing is becoming more popular?
Open wheel racing in general is becoming more popular than stock cars?
On a not unrelated note, i also read that Dover is also removing a ton of grandstand seats.
