“The Boss has done gone craaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeee!”–Robert Yoho

Rick if you would post the laps for this race and the purse for this race it will help people make the decision to come run, nice job picking an off week for Newsmyrna and trying to pull some of their cars.

I hope it works, it’s a cool little track that I’ve only raced once, would love the opportunity to try it again.

Can I get the phone number of the tech man that will be teching for that race, several questions to confirm.

Patrick Thomas 25
407-223-6439 if you want to just text me his number.

As you perhaps know, I am fond of that joint.

Bring a BFH, before the end of the night you will need it.

Not sure why, but am pretty sure it will be required.

Nah, no BFH necessary. We’re Sportsman not Super Lates. Looking forward to this event now that a more racer friendly rules package is in place. Good job Showtime!

It’s 50 laps Patrick…

But I agree with PT, a post of the payout would be muy bueno!

$50 from 8th on back like New Smyrna!

HOW DO YOU ADOPT A NEW RULES PACKAGE HALF WAY THROUGH THE YEAR?

Scott–it is St Pete. Somehow every race there is like the “Last Race Before The Apocolypse”.
I am doubting that the Sportsman cars will be exempt, but we will see.

AMF–Yoho is very receptive to his racers needs! :anim_pound:
I believe that good looking #28 was legal @ NSS excepting a detail or two under the hood, so am assuming your chassis/cars should be good at St Pete.

Sportsman races there have been relatively clean. I expect this race to be no different. However, if it is a sh*tshow it will be my first AND LAST race at Showtime. I have witnessed that before and it was one of the things keeping me away. I was pleasantly surprised to not see my class denigrate to that behavior. But if you think about it it’s really not that surprising. Sportsman generally run each other gentlemanly everywhere they race. On the subject of the 28…well you’re either legal or you aren’t and you are either going to enforce NSS rules or you are not. If the 28 comes I would hope that they would have their car right under NSS rules. If not and he finishes top 3 and things are let go then it would unravel any momentum for the Sportsman class that this event will hopefully generate. Yoho hasn’t scheduled many Sportsman races because he just hasn’t had the support of our class at Showtime. Major rule changes in July are very unorthodox but if it’s broke you gotta try and fix it. It is undeniable that the NSS Sportsman model is producing the best car counts in FL of any class, anywhere. I feel Robert is making a smart move implementing these rules. Hopefully PT comes and we can get the 22 cars necessary for the $5000 challenge. THEN we can put on a show of side by side action that will have the fans on their feet that DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A WRECKFEST.

It isn’t Showtime and it isn’t Robert.

Nor is it the competitors.

It is the nature of bullring short track racing. St Pete, Auburndale, and to some extent Inverness have more “action” than Desoto or NSS.

Analogous to Bristol vs any of the mileanahafers :smilie_bett: in Cup.

But it is a double edged sword. I would say you are more likely to bend something at St Pete, but if there is trouble at NSS, you may be hacking it off at the front of the cage.

For the record, Robert is tough on dirty driving, but not rough driving.

I have known Bithlo/NSS racers that would not head over there for the reasons I outlined, but y’know, the place packs the pits with cars for those that just cannot stay away from all that competition. It also makes a car that has less motor more competitive.

At any rate, juuuuuuuuust trying to accurately tell the story for those that may be interested, but, as always, it is only my opinion.

Geez OS, I hate to sound like Phil, but it ain’t 1975. OSW is not even a real track anymore (except on KARNAC) and Patrick is the only one from NSS that travels from there and he is really not a regular racer there anyway but that’s a whole 'nother story. Heck, the Yankee cars don’t even travel anymore. While I agree the action (aka smashing perfectly good racecars) is higher at short tracks, with Yoho’s traction treatment you DO HAVE A SECOND GROOVE. Since the good Sportsman drivers that I have had the pleasure of knowing were born with cojones and won’t hesitate on going in hard on the high side I expect this event to not get out of control yet give you something worth watching. Aaron Williamson himself told me the last time he was there he felt the high line was the preferred groove for a Sportsman (with a 602). $5000 to start last and win. Hell, even the Yankee cars might come for this one…

I am not certain how many races you have been to at St Pete, but I stand by my opinion (no offense meant here–seriously).

Some races are wreckfests, some yawners, and there are no guarantees, but I ain’t driving two and a half hours expecting to watch them roll round like marbles in a pan. And rarely, if ever, am I disappointed.

As a rule it is exciting at St Pete. As a rule there is controversy and tempers. As a rule Yoho is screaming at someone, and as a rule he has to in order to maintain some semblance of…order.

At one of the first 100 lap late model events hosted by Robert, a FUPs race I think, I believe there was not one car without damage on the track at the end. I could be remembering it wrong, but that is my recollection.

The cautions laps did not count after a point, and sometimes there were three restarts before they completed a lap. Cars were going off on the hook and pulling out 20 minutes later on the tail end of the lead lap. Many eventually left on the hook again.

If there are 22+ cars on 8" tires at St Pete, I am betting it will be exciting.

No biggie, and really no need to disagree, simply a word to the wise and all that.

If you want at least 22 cars Rick, ya gotta post the purse…

OLD SCHOOL
YOHOO RESEPTIVE TO HIS RACERS

GARRITY
RACER FRIENDLY RULES
IF ITS BROKE IT NEEDS FIXED

BY ADAPTING NSS RULES YOU WENT FROM A TRACK LIKE EVERY OTHER TRACK BESIDES NSS THAT HAD A SHOCK CLAIM RULE NOW YOU DONT NOW YOU HAVE OPENED THE DOOR FOR PEOPLE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON SHOCKS AND YES ITS A STEEL BODY SHOCK WITH INTERNAL ADJUSTMENTS AND BASE VALVES THIS IS WHY RACE TRACKS DONT LET RACERS MAKE THE RULES!
:anim_pound:

I am strongly against high dollar shocks. Maybe someone can 'splain it to me, but it seems to me that the handling ought to be done with the springs and sway bars, and the shocks are there to keep the wheels from bouncing.

And enough RF spring to avoid coil bind.

If everyone was running that, where is the downside… maybe I am missing something.

And, is not the genie out of the bottle already at NSS? And shocks or no shocks, that 28 car was having no issues in the handling or bite departments.

All that said, I will wager that Yoho saw the NSS Sportsman car count and thought–“we run those rules, we get those cars”.

Similar to the F-53 tire that the mods wanted to run. “They want those tires, I’ll get those tires. Whatever gets me the most cars”.

Note: Don’t want to put words in Robert’s mouth. I made that up. That is my guess. But that does not mean it may not be accurate.

Calm down, AMF. CAPS=YELLING. I’m confused. Don’t AMF cars usually run very strong at NSS? 28 passed Patrick from behind to beat him last Sat at NSS. Brandon Morris and Aaron Williamson have had a ton of success at NSS running your shocks too. Are you aware of someone exploiting this rule at NSS? If not, then it’s really not a problem. I’m all for claimer rules on shocks but Showtime’s $65 rule was unrealistic. Do you sell shocks for $65 for your cars? And how are the racers writing the rules? We suggested a tire that was turned down for a different one but that’s about it. I am unaware of any racer writing the rules at NSS. And although I like NSS rules, I have made no attempt to influence Yoho on these rules. Heck, I haven’t even raced there yet. But I will on Aug 15th because these rules make my car legal there. Yoho was getting terrible single digit Sportsman fields. 27 at NSS Sat nite looks pretty damn good. They are working with NSS on Brighthouse so this just makes sense. I’m sure your cars will run up front on Aug 15th. Good luck!

SCOTT–YEAH, YOU, SCOTT!

Do you know if the “NSS rules at St Pete” include the 750 tire (post #1 from Mr. Day indicates “100%”)?

Yes. As of June they have gone to the R750 exclusively. That was another thing keeping cars away. Still allowing the 650/450. They are a little quicker and created the scenario of needing stickers for an advantage. An expensive proposition if you arrive wanting to win. The R750 is good enough to win on for 2-3 races. Another good call IMO.
