Completely Unofficial 11/08 Auburndale Recap

Yes race fans, after 4 (more) hours on the road, Church, and a little sleep later, I was back in the stands at Auburndale for the Sunoco 100.

The Late Models:
It was all Jessie Dutilly. After slicing through the field early, he held the point while the rest of the field played musical chairs while methodically removing much of their bodywork. It was an interesting race and the heat of the day seemed to produce an unusual phenomena–random and unpredictable slow spin outs. Everyone but Dutilly, of course.

The Sportsman Cars:
Were the real race of the day, IMO. Sean Bass and Brandon Morris battled for most of the event side by side lap after lap, with Bass eventually taking the lead and keeping it.

Regrettably, Patrick Thomas could not make the race due to family obligations. He was missed, but probably not by the competitors.

The Wrap Up:
Still prefer night races. There were again about 12 Late Models that started this event, and only one of the St Pete cars chose to attend for reasons unclear to me.

Another event with good late models, but not the caliber of what I have seen there previously. Nonetheless, another great day at the track.

Notice you comments, on back to back nights, the trucks and sportsmans were the show. Thank Auburndale for scheduling on top of Showtime for the paltry car counts at each track. SMH.

Weft–See new “Tracks Scheduling on Top of Each Other” thread, please.
