Will desoto and auburndale sportsman be allowed to run under there rules. Please clarify. Would love to come but we all have different intakes and some run msd distributors. Thx
They have allowed those things in the past, they just make you add a little weight, you have to tell the tech officials what you have that doesn’t meet the rule book and they will assess you a weight penalty. Usually 25 pounds per piece. But call Jeff Sutcliff for a better idea of weight needed. His number is on Newsmyrna speedways website along with the 2016 rule book.

I LOVED the Sportsman division in the old Southern Sportsman days.
The division was strong then, and now it’s back to the support that it used to have.
I’d love to see this class do that again. They went all over, had rules that almost anyone could adapt too, a “fan friendly” format, about 15 cars that COULD win on any night.
It was a SHOW worth following, and I did.
I hope someone that has the ability to pull some strings that could make it happen again soon.

IMO, the wheels of greatness for the (late model) Sportsman class are already turning.
It is affordable. Or, at least, far more affordable than the upper divisions.
Back in the day when the mods ran claimer engines more than one former late model team built and ran a modified. I see that happening with the Sportsman cars moving forward.
From a sponsor’s viewpoint, their billboard is still going around in front of the same crowds, and the cars look like late models.
Actually, with the open body rules, I would suggest that they look at least as good as late models.
My prediction is that the class will continue to grow.
The class is growing fast and there are some good cars I just hope this class doesn’t get over priced.this post isn’t meant to upset anyone but us guys that don’t have a huge budget will not be able to keep up and the class will just disappear again

I believe that the 602 crate motor is the reason why this class has exploded at New Smyrna . I was looking at the final points on their website 68 cars listed under sportsman class this year. more then any class What’s that tell you don’t mess with it leave it alone . I hope to have a few built next year as well .
