Decided to at least make it to one day of the Legend Car/Bandolero Winternationals on Wednesday… Immediately ran into Rusty Marcus who was doing his usual Rusty stuff plus doing all the announcing… Well, he announces the first race then calls me to the tower and, you guessed it, turned the mic over to me for the rest of the day… Did OK, didn’t butcher too many names and, best of all, had some fun at my old stomping grounds… The place looks pretty good and the expanded pit area is great… A little over 100 cars on the grounds for 4 Legend Car and 2 Bandolero classes… Races started at 12:30 and were done by 3:15 giving everybody plenty of time to head over to NSS or VSP… Grandstand admission is FREE and there’s still 2 days left, so a good deal for fans and there was a pretty good crowd today… Racing was pretty good despite starting straight-up from group qualifying… The “Choose Rule” on restarts made several of the races real interesting at the end… Got to see some old (and some are really getting old too) friends like Ken Ragan, Dennis Westcott, Scotty Ponder, Bobby Crites, Keith Abbott and former OSW/NSS racer Ted Hodgdon whose 15-year-old son was racing in the Legend Semi-Pro class… Ted now lives in Danbury, CT… Fun day even if Rusty made me work…
Been following the action on Legendsnation.com. Quite a few bent up race cars today? 100+ race cars on a weekday afternoon, not too shabby!
