Desoto Sportsman Invitational 8/20/16

Twenty six cars clocked in Bill Vandeveder fastest at 15.884,Sean Bass second quickest, Mike Smith third fast. The sky’s are sunny and there’s 200 laps of sportsman action ahead.Looks like a good night for racing.

Josh Todd wins 25 lap bomber feature in Carl Thompson’s #75 Nova.Aaron Holmes second.

Thanks for the updates Zerofor

Todd Wozniak wins the mini stock feature. First two races run clean and green start to finish, but fifteen cars total between the two features probably helped that.

Strictly Stock feature goes to Darrin Ellis as he bests a field of eleven starters. Best feature of the night so far.

100 laps down in the Sportsman invite. So far it has been all Steve Darvolics as he has led most of the laps run so far.Jason Vail in the # 407 is second at the halfway break with Sean Bass third Bruce Bennett fourth and Mike Smith fifth. Devin McLeod pulled off around lap ten while running second and fast qualifier Bill Vandevender spun off turn four on lap 68 and was collected hard on the right side by the #98 of Welch suffering major damage. Most of the starting field remains able to start the second segment as attrition hasn’t been a factor so far.

The second segment started with the tenth place car of Tim Sozio not refiring and being pushed to the pits.Harold Crooms climbed out of his #32 to be replaced by Josh Todd.Around lap 160 it became apparent Darvolics tires had been dogged too much and in short order first Sean Bass got by to be followed by Vail,Smith and Bennett. Bass set sail until lap 187 when he made contact with the # 25 of Tim Todd Jr.sending Bass looping around coming off turn four.Bass went to the tail of the lead lap cars setting up a battle between Vail, Bennett Smith and Bobby Mobley.A yellow on lap 196 set up a four lap shootout With Vail crossing the stripe first followed by Smith, Bennett and Mobley.

Probably the best Sportsman race I’ve witnessed in my seven years here in Florida. Congrats Desoto on putting on maybe the best race I’ve seen in any division so far this year. But take note it was because there was a FULL field of cars which made guys have to negotiate through traffic, and that doesn’t happen enough down here.Too bad for anyone who couldn’t/didn’t make it to this one, it was definitely worth the drive.

Jeff Firestone won the street stock feature with Kenny Gibson second and Cody Martel snagging the Pro Truck feature and Joe Winchell second.

Thank you for the reporting, Zerofor
