Auburnhdale Speedway Championship Race Weekend Preview for 10/21-23/16

BIG RACING WEEKEND ON TAP AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

Race fans will be treated to a full weekend of racing at Auburndale Speedway with the finale for the Desoto-Auburndale Sportsman Series (DASS), the Sunoco 100 for Super Late Models and the long-awaited “Legends of Racing” event among the races on a very busy schedule. All classes will be running for double points.
Everything gets under way on Friday night with open practice from 5-9 pm followed by the annual “Pit Party” after practice concludes.
Saturday is a full day and evening of activity presented by Stepps Auto & Truck Salvage that will see the Sunoco Series Super Late Models practice and qualify for Sunday’s big 100-lapper. The DASS Sportsman will qualify and run their season finale, a double-points event that will go for 75 laps. Also on tap for Saturday is qualifying and feature races for the V-8 Bombers, Legend Cars, Mini Stocks, Scramblers and Mini Cup cars.
The DASS points are as close as can be among the top three and any of those drivers could walk away with the title. After last week’s race at DeSoto Speedway, NASCAR Division II national champion Patrick Thomas of Oviedo holds a one point edge over Plant City driver Colin Allman. After winning at DeSoto last week, Apopka’s Junior Beckner is just four points out of the lead. Auburndale’s George Gorham, Jr. sits fourth in points and Brooke Storer rounds out the current top five.
Sunday’s activity starts off with racing for the V-8 Bombers, Mini Cups, Mini Stocks, Legends and Scramblers followed by the “Legends of Racing” 15-lap contest for former racers. Such legendary drivers as Gary Balough, Perry Lovelady, Edward Howell, Jim Tuning, Steven Brack, Mike Howell, Skippy Gibson and many more will race against each other in cars from the V-8 Bomber class. Track owner Rex Guy is thinking there may be more “old timers” than race cars so he insists “If we have to run two races, we’ll run two races.”
Following the “Legends” race it will be the Sunoco 100 for the Super Late Models powered by Speedway Auto Sales. The day will conclude with a big feature race for the Mod Mini cars.
Pit gates open for practice on Friday at 3 pm with practice from 5-9 pm (open to any and all racing classes) followed by the pit party until ???
Pit gates open on Saturday morning at 11 am with Super Late Models on the track for practice from 2-3 pm followed by practice for the Saturday night classes from 3-5 pm. Qualifying begins at 5:30 pm starting with the Sunoco Series Super Late Models followed by the DASS Sportsman and other classes in the order they will be racing. Feature races begin at 7 pm.
Sunday, pit gates open at noon and racing begins at 2 pm. Pit passes are $15 on Friday night and $30 for both Saturday and Sunday. However you can buy a Saturday/Sunday pit pass for $55 or a Friday/Saturday/Sunday pit pass for $65.

Dave,

Please advise where we can find the points for the DASS Series!! There is no way Thomas is leading the points for this series and it would be really nice if the articles that are posted could be backed up with true facts!!

Can you back up your claims or are you just running your mouth to hear yourself talk? My bet is on the latter…

Just so it’s clear, the entire story is here, sir…
